At the bottom front of each saddle bag there is a piece called Rubber Protector (part number 81214-MT3-300 ). Now, before all smart comments start flooding this post, I didn’t name this part, Honda did!
On BumbleBerry, the right saddle bag Rubber Protector! was gone and the saddle bag hard plastic has rubbed on another part called Muffler Mounting Rubber 50608-KV0-000, again Honda named it! The wear on the saddle bag can be seen in the photo above.
When I noticed this, at first I wanted to cut a piece of bicycle tube and glue it on. But I decided to see if the replacement part actually exists. And I was surprised that it did and after a good laugh, I ordered it. I used a fine chisel to scrape the remaining of the old rubber from the hard plastic. I cleaned the area with damp cloth and alcohol. The new part has adhesive on one side, so just peel it off and stick the rubber protector on the same spot, and apply pressure for about 20 to 30 seconds.
After applying the new part.
The new and installed rubber protector. As can be seen, it touches the other part Muffler Mounting Rubber. I will replace this part sometime this year.
While I was inspecting the saddle bags, I noticed a couple of nuts were loose. So I took all the nuts and bolts off, removed the latches and cleaned them thoroughly. When I put everything back on, I used blue loctite on the inside bolts, so they won’t come apart.
