I just finished restoring some plastic parts and resprayed them, bringing my ST back to almost like-new condition — at least from the outside. Time to start again.

I got no scratches so far.

The reason? Metzeler ME 880 feels as slippery on cold asphalt as on butter. Had enough of distance to brake but even ABS didn't help a lot. Since I had installed metz, I’ve dropped the ST twice in wet, cold weather (around 7°C). Time to switch back to Michelin Pilot I suppose.

Oh no. After all that work Alberto. So sorry to see this. o_OGlad you are okay though and get to bringing the shine back to the beautiful blue machine.

Curious. How old these 880?

Had similar experiences on the wet with them on the 1300, but that was close to 20 years ago. I thought Metzeler introduced the replacement 888 about 15 years ago?

They should be around 4 years old now. If I recall correctly, they were less than 3 when I bought them. In warm conditions they performed fine, though.
Don't guess, read the tire's date code. Look for four consecutive digits following the "DOT".

The first two digits indicate the week of the year, and the second two indicate the year.

For example, the number "4522" means the tire was made in the forty-fifth week of 2022.
