SENA SMH10 issue

I am hoping someone can offer some help. I have my GPS paired with my SMH10 headset. I tried to run my radar detector through the Sena SM10 bluetooth transmitter. When ever I power up the SM10 transmitter, it shuts down the sound from my GPS. If I turn the transmitter off, the sound resumes from my GPS. I tried the multiport pairing method, as per the manual, but the SM10 will not pair up. Anyone have any ideas as to what pairing protocol I should try in order that I can accomplish what I want? I have contacted SENA, but have not got a response as yet.

You are getting what I experience- the SMH10 doesn't switch between different forms of audio as it should. I have tried to reset the headset and pair in different ways, but it just won't switch back and forth. Since I only have one audio input, this shows up for me when we pair the headsets. VOX doesn't function at all- even without the GPS hooked up; and when the headsets are paired, we have to manually switch between the communicator function, and the GPS input. We have never been able to get it to function so that we can have the communicators working, and have the GPS interrupt only when it has an audio alert.

That is one of the issues we've had, and it gets annoying, but the rest of the features work well enough that we still use them. I would love to get that feature working, however.
 
Even without using VOX we couldn't get it to work- when my wife is with me I have to actually unpair the GPS. Trying to switch between intercom & GPS just put the Sena into a state of confusion. I haven't tried it since the last firmware update, so it may have changed.
 
you may need to get the dual stream bluetooth stereo transmitter they sell . It allows more types of inputs . I found mine on Amazon for@ $125
 
Just heard the final word from Sena. Apparently it is not possible to pair a GPS/MP3 player to a headset simultaneously with a SM10. If there is anything coming in via the GPS (eg. music) it will override the SM10 input, thus rendering the radar detector mute. The only way is to wire the GPS into the SM10 as well as the radar and just pair the SM10 to the headset. Oh well. Not a major problem but it is not clear in their literature or the operational manual. Just a heads up to those contemplating a Sena setup.

Apparently, the SMH10 can only handle one A2DP input at a time. GPS is usually A2DP as well as the SM10. If one input was HFF (I believe phones are this) then it would work but apparently not in my case.
Would have been nice to eliminate the wired connection between the GPS and the SM10 though.

Two things to remember are important.... 1) priority level of inputs ( see list below) and 2) limits of really one channel at a time.
The SMH10 have only 3 inputs ; HST for phone, A2DP for music, and Intercom BT (multi pairing but one at a time on older, conf on newer)

If you want a phone and music inputs thats about it... you ( at least I haven't ) can't get garmins to BT on the HST side,so it's GPS or Music as the a2dp side.
This is one of the reasons I love the garmin 760... I run an 8gb card for music in it and it has an earjack so I just use a BT a2dp dongle and get gps/music when I need it.
Still don't get gps if in Intercom mode, only phone... only phone interupts Intercom.

So... the Sena has limits to what it can do , you just have to be aware of them..., altho the Autocom handled multi inputs better, I still like the Sena better.



The SMH10 operates in the following order of priority:
(highest) Mobile phone,
Intercom,
Stereo music by audio cable, and
(lowest) Bluetooth stereo music
A lower priority function is always interrupted by a higher priority
function. For example, stereo music is interrupted by intercom call,
and intercom conversation is interrupted by incoming mobile phone
call.

What I wish the Sena would do is allow the gps to link on the HST (phone) side... I've sent this to Sena about mod'ing priorities and they say will pass to engineers.
It would great to have gps interupt conversations like the phone does but don't think it's going to happen soon.
 
I ran into sort of same thing trying to pair my Garmin 665, phone, and radar. I listen to XM radio through gps, so need that to be stereo when I do. The phone I want that also to be stereo when I lsiten to Pandora. and then comes the radar. The radar is the most important thing to me, but to Sena it is the least important. So this is how I got around everything. When I want to listen to GPS, XM radio, I will pair to Sena as a stereo(AD2P) then I will either pair phone(mono) to gps or directly to Sena. When I want to listen to Pandora, which goes throiugh phone, I will pair phone in stereo and gps will pair as mono. To switch between channels there is always a slight delay, maybe 1-2 seconds(too long for me with radar) I want instant response with radar!!! I do not want a delay at all! So to solve that problem with me, I installed a small tiny speaker in my helmet and hard wired(coiled cord) in my radar. When I get on bike I just plug coil cord into my helmet and done! Yes, I have to plug in one wire, but it is worth it to get instant radar response. It may sound complicated with how to pair phone and gps but once you do it a couple of times, I actually can pair either one while riding with no issues. This may not work for others, but for me It works!!
I do love the Sena headset, wish I got it a long time ago!

One other thing I learned is that my other gps...Nuvi 765T can only pair in stereo, where the 665 will pair in either stereo or mono.
 
DaveM, Thank you so much for your comments on the Sena with the Garmin 665.

I've recently acquired a 665 and purchased a pair of Senas last fall. You've pretty much touched on all the items I'm going to have to address with teaming the 665 and the Sena.

My question to you or anyone who has experience with this scenario: If riding two up, can the rider and passenger both simultaneously listen to XM Radio via the 665? Can the 665 pair to 2 Sena headsets at the same time, so both riders can listen? Or does the 665 only pair to one Sena and then you can 'intercom' the XM Radio to the other rider?

Wow.. as long as it works for you, its great.
I use an a2dp dongle for my garmin with the built in mp3 player.... the one time I needed a radar unit I just plugged the same dongle into the radar earjack and didn't have to resync the bt. (Passport unit I believe , one of the few with earjacks )

I can not answer that yet, have not tried. My wife and I usually llisten to different music.

Are you certain that BOTH units have VOX enabled? These units advertise VOX functionality but I'm suspecting that the default configuration is that they do NOT have VOX enabled. Or, at least that is what could happen after a firmware update.

I don't recall if I tried to use VOX when I first took the units out of the box. But I did try to use the VOX function after I ran firmware updates to the units and it wasn't working for me either. I re-connected a Sena unit to my computer and opened up Sena Bluetooth Device Manager. Once the device is recognized, click on the bottom selection of "Device Setting". Inside Device Setting there will be a graphical interface with 'radio buttons' that toggle certain functions and settings of the Sena unit. VOX just happened to be turned off for both units. Once I had VOX enabled with both units it would work.

Not that I'm aware of. The 665 can only connect to one of each type of connection at a time.

I'll give this a try. I haven't had a chance to play with the headsets yet...still snowing here, and my wife's stuff is still packed up.
 
I use my iPhone for music and GPS turn-by-turn, so I could run another, bigger GPS if I wanted a bigger screen, but still have TxT, music, and a cellphone.

I'm really tempted to grab a set of these.

If I understand the iphone properly;
Yes with a but... The Iphone will link using the phone via HST and the iphone music will link via A2DP.... you really have no other BT links on the Sena left. You can use a large screen GPS, but only for visual UNLESS you actually link the iphone to the GPS ( like a Zumo 660- make sure the gps can do this ) first and play all from the GPS back to the Sena

Years ago , I tried a tablet computer in a tank map bag... Nice an big but not usable as it tends to make you look down at times you shouldn't!! :O

FYI; If your going for a Ipad or Ipad mini.... Remember to buy the models with the cell modem. The wifi only models DO NOT have true gps as its bundled in the cell module.
