I read the good reviews on Spencer's seat mods and was looking forward to having him improve my stock ST1300 seat. But I can not reach him. No reply to voicemail or email. Anyone know if he is still doing seat mods?

Patience is the rule. This is the absolute worst time of year to get a seat done.
In the future think...middle of winter.
Welcome to the forum.

Do you have any answer from Spencer?

I contacted Spencer at the beginning of the month of June with some questions about his modification process, and he got right back to me within 24 hrs with all my answers. Sent my seat to him as instructed, and got it back within 48hrs. Have been enjoying it for a couple of weeks now. Not sure why he isn't responding- he seemed very responsive and helpful when I emailed! and the long distance seat mod he does is well worth the 80 or so I paid.
He's still in business, must be very busy.

You are one of the lucky ones, I gave up trying to get a response from him, also my daughter tried to contact him last week and nothing.
My last intent will be to pay him a visit to the address on the webpage.

Today in my way to see one of my customers in Port St. Lucie y decide to drop by the address in Spencer's webpage.
I find the house, ring the bell and he shows up at the front door.
I start splaining to him the reason for my visit, he interrupts me telling me in a very rough manner that he does not do business at his house.
He turns around and shut the door in my face.
"very polite and professional"
I'm glad to know him in this circumstance because I'll rather no to do business with him.
For me: CASE CLOSED.

Spencer does grade A work.
I'm not sure how I'd like a stranger to appear at my front door.
Telephone, telegraph, tell a stranger.

If you read his facts page, he politely tells you not to show up at his location.
Do you do "ride in" mods:
Not at this time, I have pre-scheduled seats shipped in from all over every day, the schedule is tight, and with my promised turn around time it is crucial that I keep on track. As much as I would enjoy your visit, It is just too easy to spend an afternoon talking bikes and telling lies. :) Currently seats are done strictly on a shipped in basis only.
I can't explain why he hasn't gotten back to you via email. Perhaps you are using the wrong email address. Try calling him at the number listed on his website.

Yeah he posted 'Don't drop in'. So it can safely be assumed that he doesn't want anybody showing up on his domicile doorstep and that a motorcyclist who found him should have known that. (Exceptions to every rule blah blah)

It would have been just as easy for a polite and professional person to say 'Sorry but I don't do any business at home. I bid you good day and safe travels'. Or anything similar. Then turn around and shut the door. You could have been the 15th person that day or week to show up so maaaaybe he might be cut some slack.

Be that as it may I've seen many small businessmen adopt the business style of bad manners. From my experience it comes from 'I know more than you so take it or leave it I don't really need your business anyhow and who are you to ask questions if I didn't tell you you don't need to know '. That entiltement is seldom earned at these lower levels of expertise and never appreciated but there you are.

There's also a medical documentary I saw a couple of years back that said as men (not women bless 'em) get grumpy as they age. I've seen that general trend though it hasn't been universal. Whether that's been established/accepted under peer review as medical fact I can't say. Certainly some people seem ahead of that curve so exceptions...

I've wondered about getting a Spencer seat but a few people here and one or two in passing have stated that gel gets hot and is slow to cool and can cook eggs. I have to wait cost agains ride frequency and distance so a Russell is out. At most a Lamm or Sargent seat might be my consideration. YMMV.

However if heat isn't a problem and I tried someone's Spencerized ride and like it I'd bite the bullet and make arrangements to get it done (assuming I could contact him). He wouldn't know it was me that had darkened his doorway. :D

There was no gel per se in my Spencerized ST seat, and it didn't get any hotter than any other seat in the sun that I could tell.

Spencer's communications skills suck, but he does a great seat. Not everybody these days finds it necessary to be PC. Sometimes you need to work a little to get what you want. If this bothers you, move on.

Been riding a Spencer seat for 8 years.

This is the middle of the summer.
Did you ever think that he might be a little BUSY?
The time to get a Spencer mod of a Russell build is in the winter.
If you must do it in the summer be prepared for a wait time.

I found him friendly and easy to work with. My saddle, too has no gel and is no hotter than it was before. I do recall mention by him (either to me when I spoke with him a few years ago about doing his magic on my bike's seat or by reading someone else's post here) that he was slowing down and looking forward to retirement. Many of us are either within spitting distance of retirement or beyond that point. I'm not making any excuses for him, just tossing another factor into the equation.

For me, the Spencer seat mod was the best farkle for my ST11. I had no issues on the business side. Then again, this was 12+ years ago...

Another great option is LAAM motorcycle seats.. and he won't blow you off either. very nice person and quality work.

There seems to be at least some controversy about people 'showing up at the door' . It happens all the time here for various reasons. I can't see any reason to be harsh with anyone because of it. Common courtesy doesn't cost anything and in fact sometimes there's big rewards down the road.
