I apologize in advance I didn't get a picture - I may even go back today to get one...

I do some business with my local Honda dealer, so I'm back in the shop to look at something for him and there's an ST1100 sitting there... with an at-least 18" pair of mini-apes (or are they actual apes at that point?) on it. Imagine your hands nearing the top of the windshield.

WEIRD looking, and I can't even imagine what it would ride/handle like.

I dunno, maybe they're awesome. Anyone got anything that far 'up' and care to share what it's like?

That was the former president of the Hells Angels Sonny Bargers bike. He said on more than one occasion that he was p* off at Harley for wanting to distance themselves from outlaw bikers after first embracing the bad boy lifestyle. Personally said before he died he would ride a BMW or Honda if he had to do it over again!

Do apehangers increase comfort, reduce arm stress, or have any other benefit besides visual appearance?

Michael

Apehangars are cool. If you have to ask you'd never understand just how cool they are.

Go back to the dealer and buy the coolest bike you'll ever ride.

Super Cool.

I would assume with your arms up the whole time you’re riding, your arms would be numb for a lot of the ride (try holding your arms up for a bit and you’ll see). I think they were designed to look ‘cool’ (open to criticism) and a lot of the Harley crowd using them probably didn’t ride too far with them.

To OP: Please take a picture if not too much of a hassle- I’m sure we would all like to see that bike.

Being a tall(6'6") rider I always have to build handlebars that work for me. To some folks they look way to tall but for me... I like my hands slightly lower and slightly outboard of my shoulders with my elbows slightly bent and relaxed. I am slightly confused, so says my bride.

I'm gonna have to say no! I've seen that pic often, always wonder it's actually real? At least he'd have an unobstructed flight path if he crashes.

I can look at home.. I found a similar bike being rode on the highway one day and took pictures from my cell whiel tailing in the car. The rider could only keep one hand on the bar at a time, not enough bllod pressure to keep both arms filled at the same time.

PS Missouri has a law on the books, handlebars shall be no more then 13" above seat height. Obviously, not enforced.

Honda has experimented with the ST1300 as well.

Here, with mini-apes...

They also put a cruiser front end on it, but I've lost that picture.

Ride what you like, it's all good. :)

In these times, pics can't always be believed because of photoshopping. Now they're doing fake videos that you would swear HAD to be real.
