Coffee is the only coworker who shows up, does its job, and doesn’t email me... :coffee:

G'Day...

8°/16°C, mostly cloudy, gusty winds...

things would be odd without home and office caffeination... ☕

nothing special occurred, hence not much to write to annoy Obo with yet...

another day at the office...

Morning all. Thanks Martin for the startup. I'll wait to see if there's more later.

4C here headed to 6C. Rain is the thing of the day.

Also the thing of the day is starting my 7 weeks of half days. There are some days in there where I'll be working all day, and some weekends, and it's not truly half my workday I'm taking off, but it's just easier to say 7 weeks of half days. I also didn't get the Wing's oil changed yesterday, so that's still on the to do list. I've also got a new MC trailer to register, 3 tires to buy for the old MC trailer.... Sounds like I need some time off from my time off.

Enjoy!

Obo.

Good morning everyone

Thanks for the uneventful coffee, Martin.

It's 62°f and partly cloudy in Rockville, headed for 81 with a 50/50 chance of light, scattered showers. If they happen, they shouldn't have much of and impact on today's round of goof.

Yesterday evening's show by The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain was simply fabulous. The lead player had numerous opportunities to showcase his mad hot skills, and the group did a lot of clever and creative arrangements. One memorable example: "Pinball Wizard" done a cappella to the rhythm of a sea shanty. Another: starting from a piece by G.F. Handel, they quickly diverged into a medley of modern pop tunes tat fit the melody and rhythm. At one point each member of the septet was singing a separate tune and words simultaneously, and it all blended well and sounded fabulous.

Stay safe and well everyone and tell your dear ones you love them. Do it today, NOW, for tomorrow may be too late.

Thanks for the coffee start this morning Martin!

Tis a damp and dreary morning here. It is about 37F, heading to 54F. The clouds leaked quite heavily during the night but appear to have stopped at the moment. There should be some bits of sun this morning before the sky leaking starts again, continuing for the next week.

Progress at last on the effort to replace my tiny squirrel infested garage with one that will be usable. A contractor will be coming by tomorrow to finalize building plans and establish a rough schedule, assuming the road postings will be lifted soon.

Well, my brother's lung cancer had been responding extremely well to the initial treatment with the tumor shrinking and his overall health improving. It fooled us. It has suddenly exploded throughout his body. He is now undergoing the full scale IV chemo that kicks your butt each treatment. There will be a full reassessment in June to see how things are going but he is making final plans. Yes, I had a double whiskey last night after I talked to him.

When I looked out my window this morning there is evidence that at least one bear is out of hibernation! The stand where I hang a suet-seed block for the birds has been flattened to the ground and the feeder is gone.

Be safe, be careful and beware of hungry bears!

Scott

Good morning, all, and thanks for the brew, Martin.

It's going to be a mild day, but it's also going to be grey, gloomy and soggy. The current temp of 7°C/45°F will rise to 15°C/59°F. The light rain that's coming down right now will turn into a heavy downpour at around midday and then ease up again, but it will keep falling until this evening. At least it isn't sn... you know, that stuff.

@ibike2havefun: Sounds like a great concert with very talented musicians. Glad you enjoyed it!
@steve3b3: Sorry to hear you're still under the weather, hope you feel better soon. Good luck with the tests.
@jdmccright: Very glad to to hear the play went swimmingly!

Whelp, time to do some'at useful. Everybody have a good one, stay safe and go safely.

Patty

Good morning, all. Thanks for the caffeine, Martin.

66/78, with a brief shower expected in a half hour. It’s the first precip in almost 2 weeks, so any rain is welcome. I’ve never known an April to be this windy. Everyday, it 10-15, with gusts to 30. Not just some days, but every day. It makes it hard to get an online burn permit to dispose of debris from the January ice storm, while the constant wind keeps blowing more broken limbs down.

On the plus side, my little $100 Chinese trim saw is taking care of business very nicely.

G'mornin' from SoMD! We are sunny and 65F/18C here and this week will heat up as we start getting into the 90s...ugh. What spring? Unless they meant bouncing from freezing to broiling. Today though is just another ordinary day now. I can sip my coffee in relative peace now that the weekend is over. Thanks, Martin!

The weekend went pretty good, and the Av did good with the trailer to haul the set pieces back home. I've yet to see what the fuel economy was but just from watching the gauge it was modest. I didn't push it unless I had to and the trailer was lightly loaded. We didn't win any performance awards...not surprised but would've been nice. Since this was like a second round of competition, we were already up against stronger (and more well-financed) competition from PA, NY, DE, as well as MD. Still, I'm happy with what we brought, and most importantly, the audience laughed and enjoyed our show. Thanks @Peppermint for the thoughts!

This week will be relatively mundane, with that pesky job but it keeps the bills paid. WFH today but should be warm enough to ride in again. Take care y'all!

Morning Martin & All from overcast skies in Southern Utah!

Currently it is 47F, up from 39F and heading for 55F. Rain in the forecast, but I doubt if we'll see much of it. Last night, we got a whole 0.01". Yep, that will help our drought! At least the winds have died down. For the last two days it's been blow pretty good. But it's just a slight breeze right now, and later, they will be out of the SW @ 16 to18mph.

The only excitement I had all weekend was the winds broke a number of zipties on the north side of the fence. So I had to battle the winds to retie them. It seems these zip ties I get from Harbor Freight just don't last. I came across some when we were up in Montana last October, so I've ordered some more of them. One of these days, I'll get back to the fence and do away with the screws that are holding it together and either weld it up or use pop rivets to replace the screws.

Scott, sorry to hear about your brothers health. We lost my brother's wife to cancer, back in 2007. She was only 55.

Not sure what I'll get done today. We'll see as the day progresses.

We'll have some breakfast, once Chris wakes. Pepsi(s) on the menu for lunch.

Anyone :bl13:, have a great day on the roads! :hat3:

Morning all! Sunny with cloud right now, 9C now, high of 13 expected.

A bit of excitement here on Friday; the pool that I swim at had a hazardous gas release. Somehow, something got mixed with something and the result was chlorine gas. The entire facility was evacuated and the surrounding area was told to shelter in place. 8 people ended up going to the hospital for treatment. The pool is due to close for demolition and replacement in the fall so it may have been a mechanical failure.

Scott, I am really sorry to hear about your brother. Hopefully the treatment works and he pulls through.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Good Monday, is that possible. 51 F and wet with a bit of wind. Going to stay inside. Sorry to hear about your brother Scott, praying for his recovery.
Did get out yesterday for a test ride, Lady is running a little bit Smoother,so sealing the restriction valves on my gauge set was needed. She also unloaded the front wheel in first gear when I opened the throttle at 3000 rpm. Instant throttle response. Well going back to bed for a nap, cheers G

The 5x8 enclosed UHaul trailer cost me ~10 mpg, despite my keeping the speed to about 60 mph the entire way home from Lansdale. Oh well, it's not something I do very often.

I don't get much better than that, when I haul my 5x10 box trailer behind my Tacoma.

On my way up to PA my CR-V made a bit over 35 mpg, which dropped to about 25 on the return trip with the trailer in tow.

The best my 98 Tacoma (SE V6 4WD model) ever did was about 22 mpg. That was with nothing in tow and not in 4WD, obviously.

Your CR-V is doing better than my 16 Tacoma 4x4. just normal pulling the trailer with my shell on the back, maybe 14 to 15 mpg. :cautious:

I normally get 22mpg combined, 28mpg pure highway in the Av. I ended up with 18.7 with the trailer. It was also a 5x8 u-haul. I'm sure if it had been more heavily laden it would've sucked. Considering all the traffic, I think it did well.

Your cr-v probably isn't optimized for towing (obviously). Sounds like you have the new hybrid though. Impressive such a large vehicle can get that good mileage nowadays. But making it haul anything more than butts is outside it's design envelope IMO. here's to hoping you don't have to return to up there.

Sounds like you have the new hybrid though.

Nope, 2018 1.5 liter AWD turbo. I always run it in "Eco" mode though I'm not at all certain that makes a discernible difference in fuel economy.

Honda agrees: according to the owner's manual the towed weight limit is 1,500 pounds.

Your cr-v probably isn't optimized for towing (obviously).

Probably not although I don't know whether the receiver was added at the factory, as a dealer-installed option, or as an aftermarket option. It was already there when I bought the thing as a Certified pre-owned vehicle in 2019. ("Certified pre-owned" always makes me think "We the dealer certify that someone else owned this vehicle before we sold it to you...")
