The NT1100 Thread

Yes I know. Been thinking about ordering one. DHL hit me with 50 bucks tariffs and shipping was near 50 bucks for the tank cover. Total near 250 dollars. How long did it take to get the seat from them.
About 10 days. One delay was because I paid with a Euro transfer from an old Deutsche Bank account I had while being an ex-pat. I thought that would make things quicker and save me a few bucks on currency conversion fees, but it took a good 3-4 business days just for them to align my payment with the order. So after they acknowledged my payment, it was about a week. So other than the additional shipping and tariff costs, it was a good shopping experience.

I did hear from someone on one of the FB NT groups that those seats were available in Canada as well. So you might Google around a bit in case that's significantly cheaper.

The curb weight for the NT1100D is listed at 547lbs. Is its weight distribution similar to that of the ST1300? Be it center of gravity/center of balance/center of buoyancy/whatever – the ST is top heavy. Is this true of the NT?

I flat foot the ST with a slight non-standard adjustment of the seat that keeps the front in the middle position. Otherwise I slide forward underway. When stopped I really feel the top-heavy weight and being tip-toe would be a worry for me. I understand there are several here who are on the shorter side of things and have no trouble with holding it a little at a stop. I'd need some stout quads to achieve that comfort level.

Walking an ST around on tip-toes would be a no go for me. I'd think it easier with the NT. It's disappointing that Honda seems to regard ~31" as a standard seat height. I did sit on a CTX and an F6B years back and found the ergos very comfortable.

DCT and it does CarPlay? [Cue itchy trigger finger.]
I have a ST1300 and recently purchased a NT1100. You loose about 150 lbs. going from the ST to the NT. Although the NT is a bit lower in horsepower than the ST, you will not feel it. The NT feels much lighter and easier to handle diving into the curves and at slow speed maneuvers. I can flat foot the NT with no problem where it was a stretch on the ST. I enjoy them both, but the the NT wins hands down.

Congrats on your NT. Make sure you stop in at NT-owners.org https://www.nt-owners.org/forums/ also run my Mellow.

Question for the NT110 guys, sorry if you saw this in the dedicated forum.

I just got my NT1100 a few weeks ago and I've noticed the feel of weight is very different from my BMW K1600 and my ST1300, lighter and higher. My wife's weight barely changed how they rode.

I'm getting ready to take her on an overnight trip and I'm curious if anyone can give any feedback on how this handles with a pillion compared to either of those two bikes? We're hoping to get a practice run in before our trip but we have an adult disabled son, so I'm not sure we'll be able to work that out.

If it helps, I am much bigger than her (6'5" 230lb vs 5'4" 150lb) and I have panniers and trunk. I easily flatfoot the bike, so I'm not worried about the on/off. She is also excellent at pretending she's luggage back there.

Any insight is appreciated.

I am currently researching my next bike and am strongly considering the NT110 DCT. Right now I am riding a Boulevard and while it gets me down the road it doesn't feel like the bike I really belong on. I used to have a 2011 DL650 and loved how that handled. I am looking for a bike with more of that riding position but also a better set up for touring.

If any of you have past Dl 650 experience I would love to hear how the NT 1100 compares.

The NT is a good buy as price is quite reasonable (esp. on the used market- only downside if there is one is that your locked in to a DCT transmission)- I was doing some recent research on the bikes and it’s most comparable to a Kawasaki Versys 1100SE (no auto but comes with a quickshifter and does no require use of the clutch for up/ down shifting- clutch would be needed at a stop and takeoff, however). Price wise the NT wins but if I was buying, I might choose the Versys. Downside of both is chain drive (if you’re used to shaft drive) but people that own chain driven bikes here will tell you that’s really not a significant issue as chains are much better made these days and really don’t require as frequent lubrication as chains of the past.

I traded in my trusty 2006 DL650 for the NT1100 and still grinning after a year. Power and handling dwarf what the very competent DL offered.

I can't compare it to the DL650, but I bought one in February and my only regret is the dealer I used. Since you're in WA, that won't be a problem for you.

The DCT does take some getting used to, especially at low speeds. Once you do get used to it though, you mostly stop thinking about it. It has a lot of configurability, especially in concert with the drive modes. If you're going to be going under 10mph for an extended time, switching to Rain mode is great, because it dials back the throttle sensitivity.

As @billo mentioned, you're looking at about 2/3 again more power, but it's smoothly delivered.

It handles well, plenty of space if you get the bags, their 1/3 again the size of the ones I had on my K1600. The windscreen is surprisingly protective when up, and adjusts a lot. The one slight niggle is the pillion. My wife finds the height a little intimidating and with all the bags on, in can be a little nerve-wracking getting until you get the hang of it. But otherwise it's comfortable.

All in all, it strikes me as what happens when you let motorcycle nerds build a bike for real world riding.

Anybody come up with a mod to lower the rider pegs on the NT1100?

I found these just now (Amazon and same one on eBay as well)- not sure if it’ll work for you but is designed for the NT1100
