Garages and pantries have that in common, they're not quite big enough. So gentlemen, bear that in mind when you're seeking your better half's approval for spending an extra 50 big ones for a bigger, better garage. Fix it so she gets a sweet pantry, with elbow room!

I tried that approach with my proposed stand-alone wood shop. It had a generous piece of floor space carved out for her pottery wheel and kiln, plus a dedicated slop sink. That was still not enough enticement to get her to approve the project. Oh well.

I did the pantry thing over the Winter as we redid the kitchen. A bit delayed compared to the garage, but she's happy.

You needed a pottery shed, with an attached decent side wood shop that just happened to come about as a result of scope creep ;)

If it financially possible and the room is available make the new garage on the bigger rather than smaller side of whatever options you are considering. Once it is filled with tools, toys, and equipment a garage is always to small.
Oh yeah! I thought the new shed was huge until I started storing stuff in it. (14 x 20)

The current garage is a 2-bay building that would make a Prius feel cramped and my pickup will not even consider fitting in. The attached carport will "just" accept my pickup if I back in with the passenger mirror within 4 inches of the wall and I exhale when I open the door to get out.
The new one will be 4 feet deeper and wide enough to have 3 full width bays that will make my pickup feel comfy.... along with the ST1300, tractor, boat, side-by-side and maybe the riding mower.

@sah48 remember to take photos along the way of the build, in case you ever forget where any underground power / water / drain lines etc are run.
