Tragic loss of ST rider-Bill Galarneau

Re: Tragic loss of ST rider

Very sad to hear of this tragic loss.
Reading the press release, it seems so senseless... could happen to any of us.
My condolences to family and friends.

Re: Tragic loss of ST rider

OMG...Condolences and prayers go out to the family. While I didn't know him personally, we had talked via PM a few times, and he was a great guy. Very sad and tragic news indeed.

Thanks for posting the report zlamemory.

Re: Tragic loss of ST rider

zlamemory,

Thanks again for the updates.

I think Larry nailed it: assuming someone is pulling over for you... I do this all the time...and every time, so far, it's been the case. Sounds like the lady didn't check her blind spots before doing something she shouldn't have.

I'm going to think twice the next time I see a person pulling to the shoulder.

At any rate... very sad.... :(

Reprint from Antelope Valley Press, May 11, 2009:

"A 49 year-old Victorville man suffered fatal injuries Saturday night after he was thrown off his motorcycle during a traffic collision with a pickup truck on Pearblossom Highway, sheriff's officials said.
The man, identified as William Galarneau, was transported via ambulance, but was pronounced dead while en route to Antelope Valley Hospital, authorities said.
The collision occurred about 9:30 p.m. on Pearblossom Highway between 52nd and 53rd streets east, when 50 year-old Irene Anguiano, of Palmdale, pulled over onto the southern shoulder of the roadway and initiated a U-turn directly in front of the path of the motorcycle.
Deputies said the vehicles collided broadside in the eastbound No. 1 lane.
Galarneau was traveling eastbound behind Anguiano's 1995 Ford pickup truck, officials said.
After being thrown from his 2007 Honda motorcycle, Galarneau came to rest on the northern shoulder of Pearblossom Highway.
Anguiano and her three occupants did not suffer any injuries.
Pearblossom Highway was closed down between 50th street East and Avenue T for approximately five hours, officials said.
The incident remains under investigation by the Traffic Detail of the Palmdale Sherriff's Station."

It doesn't ease the pain, Bill was a very good technical rider. We all know, unfortunately, how difficult it is to avoid the actions of others.

Hope this helps us understand.

Re: Tragic loss of ST rider

Just because Bill was a member of this ST family, this bad news hits hard. My condolences to Bill's family.

Re: Tragic loss of ST rider

Could we forward a print from this post to his wife?

Would be nice so his family can see that this community care about him.

RIP

Re: Tragic loss of ST rider

I met Bill once, and I too feel like I've lost a brother thru our association with this group of riders...Prayers to the family, I'm at a loss for words... :(

Re: Tragic loss of ST rider

I have been at a loss of words since Saturday night. I have worked closely with Bill for close to 20 years, man did I love working with him.

One year ago I got back into riding. Bill turned me onto this site and raved about the wonderful people he had met. I followed Bill's advice and purchased a 2005 ST1300 from a guy on this site. I loved to ride and talk stories with Bill.

April 23rd, 2009 I was involved in a motorcycle accident that totaled my bike. Thanks to Bill continually harping on safety and wearing all the gear possible, I walked away with only a broken collarbone. Bill was the first to call and the first person I met back at work. He gave me a big hug that let me know everything will be alright.

May 9th, 2009 I waved as Bill rode away for the last time.

I loved Bill and will always miss him.

ATCDR,

That's heartbreaking.

You're words describe Bill *exactly*. He was a really great person.

Hang in there, man.

Re: Tragic loss of ST rider

I feel as though another member in my family has passed. My deepest condolences to you Mary and Billy.

Often, when I ride on lonely empty roads I often think of those who mean so much to me. Those who are here and those no longer with us. Like ACL, Bill will be in my thoughts. Everyone ride safe.
