Trunk with passenger backrest

If you buy Givi, be, aware there are 2 versions. There is a monokey and monolock. I don't think they interchange with one another. If you buy used, you need to be sure to get a rack that matches the trunk. You will need an ST1100 specific bracket to mount the rack. The rack, E190, is a somewhat universal rack. It's really not as complex as it may sound. You can then mount any of the Givi luggage size you want. A couple racks available on Ebay.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Honda-ST-1...270400?hash=item56c1107bc0:g:6RUAAOSwk~VcbMvV includes the bracket the rack mounts to (under the plastic tail section) not needed.

thanks for the info. that made it alot easier knowing the rack number.

One word of caution on the top box - the subframe under the area that you bolt the base to is a weak point that can develop fractures where the holes in that subframe are located, if you carry a lot of weight in the box. There have been several reports of this problem over the years. Honda did design a small top box for the 1100, but it had a low weight limit because of that subframe design.

I think a couple of pieces of steel, strategically welded onto that subframe might be a cure for the weight limit.

+1 for cracks in the subframe, I had to weld mine back together and reinforce it. It's been fine ever since.

I don't have a backrest on my Givi, and I don't plan on adding one. I plan to get a backrest for my Corbin seat for any passenger I carry, to keep the side loading off of the trunk (and the metal subframe it rests on). Just a thought...

Paul- That looks like an amazing deal, nice find. It includes the mounting bracket and hardware and is still quite a bit cheaper than the Bestem I bought several years ago and I thought that the Bestem was an incredible deal. Of course I was comparing against Givi prices.

For $50, it's a heck of a deal IMO. The box seems well made and feels solid. I did have to do some work to get it mounted on the custom aluminum plate I used for my Bestem, but it's nice and solid now. Plus it pops off easily, yet when on, it's solid and doesn't rattle. Note that there are some 1 star comments (with pics) in the Amazon reviews about the mounting points failing, but the design I got is different and is much, much better than the design in the reviews.

There are a few choices on Amazon in the $50 mark. a number of them are supplied with plastic mounting plates which is the downfall however, a lot will fit on a GIVI rack.
As mentioned one should not overload them as it can lead to the tail piece cracking and fatiguing.

Here's an alternative to the Givi plate that relieves some of the subframe stress:

I just ordered one of the Comie Top cases that the link bright me to. Depending on how the bolts line up I may make a plate then mount box bracket to it.

I'll try to post some pics of my box mount tonight or tomorrow.

Box mounted on my ST11...

My custom aluminum plate sandwiched between box's supplied plate and the grab rails on the ST11. I mounted the aluminum plate with the OEM bolts.

The hand screw inside that holds the box to the supplied plate. When needed, the box comes off in seconds... unscrew and just slide the box backwards. See tab/slot below.

The supplied plate bolted to my custom aluminum plate. I used SS bolts and washers that fit into the square holes. Marked and tapped the aluminum plate to fit.

The slot in the front of the plate that holds the front of the box. The box has a tab on the front that slides into this slot.

Hope this helps. Feel free to ask any questions I didn't cover.

FYI, that is the same aluminum plate I used with my Bestem for ~5 years, mounted in about the same way. Although I had to add some additional bolts in the Bestem because it rattled. This one is rock solid mounted as designed, with just the tab/slot and the hand screw.

Looks great. Basically what I had in mind from working on Vespas mounting GIVIs. My top case is supposed to be here between the 6th and 10th.
