I seem to recall someone mentioning about "misinstalled swingarm boots" in an earlier post.

Is the swingarm tool the same as the 1100? If yes, there are many of those available around the country. I have one, John Oo probably has a half dozen.

The home-made version works great too.

For correct "torque", mark the pivot pin, lock ring, and frame in a straight line, reinstall with those all lined up and yur good to go.

George is the tool the same? I made 1. also welded a 19mm lug nut(long) into a 19mm short socket.This is for the 19mm hex on 1300. Used this on my brothers Yimmihaa. If anyone needs to borrow just ask.

I assume they are the same but don't know fur sur. The "pin" on the 1100 is 17mm, not 19mm.

(BTW, the one I have is an "official" Honda tool with the extended arm for a 1/2" wrench, but the crowned portion is shallow, making it hard to use on an 1100. The one in John's kit is much deeper, placing the arm farther from the frame, much easier to use.)

Not the same. I have one for my 1100 when I did the alternator upgrade. I made it from a 29mm socket using a Dremel tool. It won't fit the lock nut on the 1300 (just tried) as it appears to be a mm or two larger in diameter. HTH.

Yeah, I have a steering head lock nut tool and that's just a tad too small.

How is the engine side out put play?Bearing.
Oil seal? any signs of leaking?
right behind swingarm boot. But you already knew that.
Just thinking all that stress might have worn that bearing area and seal.

The shaft coming out of the engine had no play or 'look' that it was under any kind of stress. No leaking oil, nothing. I think that part is good, and I'm glad too LOL

Out of curiosity, isn't your bike under warranty? Why didn't you let the dealer fix it? Obviously it could have been something you did when working on something else but once you had it identified as a bad u-joint, I was wondering why you didn't go to the dealer. Not that I don't appreciate your write up as it will benefit others out of warranty.

It's just a hassle. I like working on the bike and I didn't feel after looking at the procedure it was s difficult job. Besides, If I do the work, I know it's right. I know I've taken my time and carefully followed the procedures.

I'm not saying the dealer wouldn't do just as good of a job as I did, some probably would end up doing a better job.. however, some would not.. and I trust my own work.

If I was stuck on the side of the road that would be a different issue altogether.

If you don't have a 19mm hex wrench a 3/4" hex would probably work in its place instead.

19mm = 0.748"

One way to make a 19mm hex allen, Get a piece of either 19mm or 3/4 hex barstock. Cut it long enough to go into a regular socket and have an inch or so stick out of the socket to use for your needs as a allen drive. That will be my plan when the time comes, but then I have access to bar stock at work.

On the one side of the swing arm the size of the hex is 19mm or 3/4" but on the side with the lock nut it is a different size, anyone know what the hex size is on the lock nut side?
