Gloves What gloves do you wear for daily riding?

@Obo - the Z1R 270 are only $40 at Revzilla. They look good and at a modest price! I'll probably pick up a pair to try - in fact, since Cycle Gear is owned by Revzilla, and there is a new CG store 5 min away from my home, I'll stop there first to see if they have them in stock.

I looked them over and thought they weren't any worse than the Joe Rocket Gastown glove which is similar and double the price. (I thought about buying a set of those.)
I really don't want to pay over $100 for a pair of gloves, even though I'm aware of the protection they can give. Something in me says that just too much of my hard earned money for what I'm getting. The Z1R's fit some of my wants with being leather, a bit of padding, knuckle protection, COMFORTABLE, easy to work the controls and relatively inexpensive. Hopefully I never need to find out how reliable they are in a stress test!

So I have gone to the extreme. Spring and summer, if it’s not 90+, I will wear my track Dainese track gauntlet’s. Not the uber ones but one step down. I also have all the junk as far as back protection and such. I’m not wearing a race suit but close. If I go down, I still want to make it to a STOC event. Even if I don’t show up with my bike and gear, I will still bring the Hungarian sausage.

Based on the suggestion to look for tactical gloves, I looked up these NS430. This is what I found:
Hatch NS430 Specialist Black Tactical Gloves Features:
  • Constructed of neoprene for comfort, flexibility and warmth
  • Palms made of Synsi-feel synthetic leather for excellent grip and accurate feel
  • Extreme-grip sewn onto palms and fingertips for maximum grip
  • Hook and loop closures keep gloves firmly in place
I am skeptical that a neoprene glove will provide the durabiliy and abrasion resistance to protect hands when sliding down the road. these seem to be designed for max grip and feel rather than abrasion protection.

I've looked at these (as I mentioned) and seriously considered buying a pair. Do they look to you like they will provide decent protection? I have a pair of custom made Thurlow gloves (and a jacket) that I wore for a few years. I stopped because they seemed to be more of a dress glove than a mc protective glove. They are soft and supple, made of deerskin, and fit like a second skin. After a short time, I don't even know I'm wearing gloves. Unfortunately, Thurlow is gone, and the gloves were only single layer, not reinforced on palm and knuckles (like Lee Parks).

When I picked up my summer gloves it was at a Revzilla store. I put maybe 6 pair on the table and tried them all on and off until I was down to the pair I picked. Try a few in the same class.

Maybe someone can help with my search? I'm looking for a quality pair of deerskin gauntlets, as I need the longer glove to protect a thin patch of skin that gets exposed to UV at the wrist when riding in my Klim jacket.

I was hoping to find a pair at this year's Vancouver Motorcycle Show, from a woman that usually had a booth there, but the show was cancelled, due to manufacturer supply issues apparently.

Hi Bush,
The feed and tack store in Cloverdale carriers Millwalke leather gauntel gloves for about $80 . The are on #10 hwy and I believe 180th street , last building on east side of town south side of the road. Hope this helps

Aerostich elkskin ropers, unless its cold enough to need the Gerbing heated gauntlets. My hands are fairly large, with long fingers. The Aerostich has more granular sizing, so I get the fit I want/need. They are extremely comfortable once broken in.

Again, as @Willsmotorcycle said, try 'em on. Good thing about 'Stitch is their customer service. It's first rate. I ordered these and ended up returning them because they did not fit my hands. For me they were like Army sizes - too big or too small.

Held Sambia 2 in 1 gloves. Armoured, comfy, have an insulated portion for cooler days and an uninsulated one for summer. Love ‘em. Not cheap but cheaper than losing time from work/life due to injury.

These? https://www.aerostich.com/clothing/deerskin-gauntlet-gloves.html

Or maybe these? https://www.aerostich.com/clothing/elkskin-gauntlet-gloves-natural.html (I have these and am very happy with them)

Revit had a nice pair with a gauntlet, when I came back to riding a few years ago.
When I was racing, I fell in love with Held Phantoms.
They crash well, and have a gauntlet, which I like.
I've gone through two pair, and have gone as far as re-tracing my route to recover one glove that I lost even though I'd worn a hole in a finger through much wear. The back-up pair from Cortech sucked.
Held had a spell, where I couldn't find a replacement, until I found a vendor at the track who rep'd them.
My current glove is a Held Chikara, which is a bit more sporty, but has ventilation and a gauntlet. The one weird thing is that the pinky and ring fingers are connected but it doesn't affect the ride.

My Alpenstars are like that as well. The literature that came with them said that a high percentage of motorcycle crash victims suffer serious injury to the little finger because it gets caught between the grip and the road and ripped backward. They sew them together to prevent it from being pulled away from the other fingers.

BINGO!! :)

We have a winner! While both are nice, I prefer the one you have too, mostly for the velcro fasteners to snug up the glove at the wrist and arm, but the strategically added layers of leather is welcome as well. This one appears out of stock at the moment though. I'll get on the wait list.

Was using their measuring guide key to a proper fit for you?

Cheers

I'm familiar with the place. Checked their website and it doesn't appear they have a summer weight deerskin glove. Thanks anyway.

Usually I am wearing the Firstgear Men’s Kinetic Sport Touring Leather Gloves with knuckle protection and palm sliders. I got a good deal on a pair of Olympia 340 Men's Vented Protector Gloves for $20 as a backup.

after reading all the posts here I need to re think my glove usage. over the years I've had made for motorcycle use. but the last 10 year I have gone to light weight work gloves from Lowe's called Blue Hawk. I understand the short comings but they fit and are cool in the summer heat.

I've had good luck with the Held Air N Dry gloves as pretty much a do-it-all kind of glove. They are 2 gloves in one, hence the higher price. The venting is not like a full mesh glove, and it depends on how much wind protection your bike has over the handlebars, but I've used them on a variety of bikes and my hands have been comfortable. If it rains, I simply pull my hand out and put it into the Gore-Tex side of the glove. I've ridden in some pouring all day rains and my hands have stayed dry. They're good for temps from the low 30sF up to about 75F-80F. At that point I switch to mesh gloves.

I used to wear the Aerostich Elkskin Ropers, put hundreds of thousands of miles on several pairs, then when they got a little thin I'd move them to barn work and get new ones. I currently have a pair of the gauntlet version that are pretty new, but they came in quite snug (wrong size) so I haven't worn them much. Was going to get another pair, but they've been out of stock since 2020. So I currently use a pair of Coretech Scarab 2.0 gloves for cooler riding days and during the summer hot riding, a pair of Biltwell Bridgeports. Both are very comfortable and have good armor.PXL_20230207_153932953.jpgPXL_20230207_154002715.jpg

++ for Held
Held Air Stream 2 for most riding. Gets colder I put on my Held Steve gloves. Gets even colder I put silk liners on. Even colder my warm & safe heated liners go under the Steves.
Both Held gloves are day after day, year after year comfy with good protection.
