Where did you ride today?

I took the day off to enjoy them amazing weather here in Ohio. I planned to head to Southeastern Ohio to some of the best roads in the state. I planned to add a few of these twisty roads to continue building my confidence and skills. I left out of Columbus and headed east, hooked up on Rt146 and headed south. My destination was McConnelsville via RT60. At Zanesville I picked up Rt60 and headed south. This road is beautiful as it runs along the Muskingum River - very beautiful. Unfortunately the road had multiple contruction stops that marred the flow but I pressed on. In McConnelsville I picked up RT376 to Stockport - home of this really cool mill, and then on RT266. This road is wild! I took my time and went at a comfortable pace as I still lack some confidence in the corners. Again the scenery was fantastic.

I popped back on 60 south the Marietta. This town is the site of the first organized settlement in the Northwest Territory. Marietta is also the home base for the Mail Pouch Flyby MSTA event years back. Once there I hooked up RT7 which parallels the Ohio River for a bit. This was the beginning of my return towards home. I then took RT50 towards Athens. That section is a divided highway and I dreaded the thought of taking this all the way home so I jumped on RT13 just north of Athens. This is a great road as it goes through many small towns which I enjoy seeing: Chauncey, Millfield, Trimble, Corning, Rendville, and Glouster. RT13 also run through Wayne National Forest so I got more twisty road practice but I was getting pretty tired but still fun. RT13 ran into Newark and then a short freeway blast home.

The trees are resplendent in their fall colors! The ride started in the low 50s and went up the mid 70s. I had layers to peel throughout the day and even got to open the vented sections of my riding pants!

All in it was 265 miles over 6.5 or hours. Stops were only 3 and short as I wanted to maximize the day, the roads, and the weather. Since getting the bike two weeks ago, I have over 1200 miles on it!

Took the ST out today. This time pointed northeast. I headed up 62 moving over the RT 541. This is a GREAT road. My intended destination was Mohican State Park but I missed a turn and kept going on this amazing and beautiful road. I ended up in the town of Shreve. The area is in Amish Country and it was great to see all the horse and buggy out on the roads along with the motorcycles. While I missed my turn I ended up seeing a really cool town I had never been to before! Love when that happens.

I then moved over to RT3 to head south towards home. A happy surprise was that I went through the town of Loudenville. The unhappy surprise was the most of the streets were torn up and grooved pavement. Unfortunately too there was active paving so I was stuck in a line of traffic for 20 minutes.. But once underway I came upon Mohican State Park and my start-of-ride destination - RT97 through Mohican State Forest. Riding through the canopy of colored leaves - red, orange, yellow, and purple was just inspiring. Once out of that I hit RT95 - not far from the Belleville RTE event - my first one - two weeks ago! I took the same route home from that event - 13 to 62. Weather was cloudy but warm - high 60s for the ride.

All in about 160 miles on some very scenic and twisty roads!

I rode to Iron Pony for a better tire gauge that would fit my rear tire stem. Then I rode out to the country 2 lane roads for a few hours. Put another hundred miles on the ST. I also got to try out my Aerostich Heated Vest and found it to be wonderful! Planning a much longer ride tomorrow schedule willing!

James (jtvisions) got the same itch I had, except he invited me to join him before I could invite him to join me. But actually, it is far more fun to follow him, than for me to do so. He's explored the back roads between Everett and the Canadian border more than anyone else probably has. And so as usual, we went off on a delightful day's ride.

I have to admit the thought crossed my mind to call him up and ask if it would be okay if I showed up in my Subaru with heated seats instead of my F800GT. One place was down to 37F. :D I think I'm becoming a wimp in my old age. :D :D

We headed north on Hwy 9 and then turned off to some side roads James is familiar with. This was a delightful place to just sit back and each lunch.

We skirted the south side of Bellingham and spent some time hiking at Waterfall Park.

This waterfall fascinated me. Why are those irregular black shapes there on the waterfall? Normally, you'll see something like the right half, but that left half was very unique.

Got back last night from South STOC, it was a wet ride home, but the GL did a good job and handled well in the rain. We got rained out on Saturday, but Friday's ride was a great one, about 200 miles in South Alabama hills. Cotton fields being harvested and many old homes and buildings. Great scenery. Thanks, @challanger for putting it together, I am sorry we missed Saturday's ride. Can't trust the weatherman! Total mileage 1570 miles.
 
Another ride today, about 120 miles. Rode down to Sir Pat's area of Chillicothe and was ready for some OH-STOC twisty roads the intermittent rain and patchy roads led me to cut it short and ride another day. But still a day riding is a great day!

Got home yesterday from Elk Grove CA.

I was up for the week helping my mom, clearing out things that could cause her to trip in the house. Got a few things done, but hoping that my sisters and brother (they live near her) to go in and do some more.

So I did a bonsai run from Elk Grove to home in Murrieta. It was about 480 miles, I left at 8:30am and got home around 3:30pm. I stopped three times. Once for a break after 215 miles, then for gas, and then for a piece of pie. So I wasn't sitting too long at any one time.

This has been the first long ride I have done since my Oregon trip in June 2017.
 
I drove to the grocery store because people up north did not plant enough wind break trees and the cold (28 degree) wind was too cool and there was the rain too. Brrrrrrrrrrrrr!
