Where did you ride today?

Another nice day before daycare services start up again (tomorrow) so went for a ride. A little chillier than yesterday. Started out at 37F but within 5 miles dropped to 35F. About half way around it was 33F. I did turn on the grip heat on low about 15 miles into the ride since it is better not to have slightly chilled hands... but ended up with sweaty hands and almost burned the palms. Warmer is still better than cooler. Went north and west this time. Temps also dropped all over the area during the ride. Rode 42 miles today.

And I'm STILL behind @the Ferret ... but only by 2 miles now. :04biker:

Almost got a picture of an eagle sitting on a tree branch over a small river the road was following. Just as I was about to take the shot a car drove by and the eagle flew off and down close to the water in the trees so couldn't get it. This is the same spot I saw an eagle last year so maybe next time.
 
Good January day here for a rideabout. It was 53 when I left home and when I got to Dothan ALABAMA!! it was up to 68.8 on the bike tempomometer. I had to get a pic in front of a "motor" dealership (see tag thread) but I couldn't get the Germany bike to pull completely into the HD parking lot.

A bit windy I guess going east, the RT sure used the gas with the cooler temps and 20mph headwind. It had nothing to do with my choice of setting the CC on 81 mph. FYI I was on I-10 and still got passed by 100 cars. I think one KIA had it set on WFT gas pedal as it rolled by me somewhere like at least 95.
 
This afternoon the city just dumped a fresh coat of pavement antifreeze in preparation for the trace of snow expected tonight... and tomorrow night... and the 2-3 inches expected Monday into Tuesday.
So the most I did with my bike today is look and dream as I walked past it in the garage.
 
Well, on this January 5, I enjoyed a fine ride on my owned since new 1983 Suzuki GS 1100E. Only a hundred miles with ambient temps ranging from 52 to 58. South Sacramento area to Jackson and surrounding area. Lots of (famous and known as a great motorcycle road) Hwy 49. Most excellent day....In the wind, no windscreen. Just returned from 150 km (93 mi) Christmas ride (yes, orthodox Christmas here is happening on January 7). Had a BBQ in a company of nice buddies, and after that decided to ride in the small forest park and on the sandy beach. Last part was a fun, because I have not ridden on real quite deep sand before). Can't say that ST rides well on dry deep sand though). But can say, that half of an hour riding on sand helps to get some confidence riding in off-road conditions)

I rode out east and did a loop around and into Eglin AFB. Stopped at one of the old fire lookout towers and snapped a pic.

I forgot to post these pictures on Tuesday as Mike @Hondafarian and I went over Hwy 33 and Tepusquet Canyon Road. Temperature was 34 when I left the house and we saw a high around 60 in Santa Barbara. The temperature dropped to 41 at the top of 33 and there was some ice in the shaded areas after last Saturdays storm. We road almost 300 miles for the day.

Well last Sunday was either rot on the couch in my golf underpants (the ones with the 18 holes) and drink beer or dig the ST out of the snow and go for a ride. She has been standing since the last ride out on new years eve and as it is really cold she was reluctant to start. The trick is when the battery is almost dead sigh a few times and mention that you may have to remove the battery and put it on charge, and when she thinks you have given up, turn the key and surprise her. Works every time.
Headed out over the backroads to Landsberg for a cup of cake and a piece of coffee, twas a cold ride but a great ride under a blue sky. Coffee was good but the cake gave me the burpies.IMG_0301.jpgIMG_0303.jpgIMG_0302.jpg
 
We've had temps in the teens for awhile. Even when it "warmed" up, it was so slick that I turned around one time in my Subaru Outback and went home. So when the forecast looked like it would hit mid-40s...I headed north.

My plan was to head north to Clayton Beach and then extend the ride to Teddy Bear Cove, if there's enough time.

I cut over to the roads closest to Puget Sound. The weather didn't cooperate. North of home, there was snow still everywhere.

Normally, there's snow geese out there. I think they still are there.

The temps that were supposed to be in the mid-40s, went down to 37F. The farther I went north, the deeper the snow was.

What you can't tell from the picture, is what is through the trees on the left. If you look at the GPS, you can see Puget Sound, specifically Chuckanut Bay. It's a fun twisty road, with views that tempt you to take your attention off the road.

You never know what'll be on the road.

Closest I've got to riding was taking "Betty Ford" airport tractor out plowing snow she is a 79 -85 545 diesel , no cab ,wore my winter riding gear to stay warmIMG_1860.jpg
