Where did you ride today?

Went to help my wife's friend install that deck umbrella today that I pre-checked on a several days ago. Hooked up the trailer to take the tools and supplies I needed to brace the post where she wanted it installed. Rode 28 miles today.

On my way home I kept hearing a sound that wasn't happening on the way there. At home when I unhitched the trailer and pulled it to its parking place in the garage I could easily hear that sound again. So I set the trailer up off the one wheel and gave it a spin. Sure enough, sounds like bad bearings to me. Already ordered a new set of All-Balls bearings from Unigotrailers.com. Hope they arrive soon so I can get them replaced on the trailer wheel before FerrySTOC.

Was a little cool today. About 40F. So went out for a ride anyway... just added back in the liners. Rode 40 miles in 40 deg F. :biggrin:

USPS says my new trailer axle kit from Uni-Go is expected to arrive Monday, Apr 22. I have the tools. I have the grease. I'll soon have the parts so the trailer will be back on the road next week! :thumb:
 
I went to the Costco Business Center. I found one of the electric shopping carts and filled it with things like TP that was on sale. I had to turn around in one aisle because of a forklift. It's amazing how tight a turn it can make. If I ever have to retake my motorcycle license exam, I'll see if I can use it. I could easily turn inside the cones with it.

No pics, but I guarantee it happened.

Well, it's like this!

My son Justin wanted me to ride down to Las Vegas, to meet him for the day on Saturday. He is there for a Dart tournament. And then I found out he wasn't doing anything on Saturday, and that he finished early Friday, so I offered him, "...what if I come down and get you, bring you back up here (to Cedar City), then we could go riding on Saturday?

After some REAL ARM TWISTING, :rofl1: he was all for it. At first a couple of the guys that came down from Portland, OR, with him, (there must have been 30 people from Portland there, at the tournament) were renting Harleys and at first thought they would ride out to the Grand Canyon, that was until I told them that was over 280 miles, one-way. After the one guy picked himself up off the ground, he said they were only going to do, maybe a 100 miles or so. Well that removed the Grand Canyon from Justin's wish list too, because I told him it was a little longer from my house.

So we looked at the map last night and I came up with a little 275 mile ride for the day.

Before we left for the ride, Justin asked if he could ride the bike back to Las Vegas, after we left ZION? Well, it was either that, or after we got back to my place, I would have had to drive him back down to Las Vegas, then drive back up here (Another 340 miles - don't think so, not today).

We left my house around 9:30, the temp was already up above 50F, and I was able to find enough gear for Justin to wear and he used his mom's Neotec with a SEZNA 30K Which is also what my helmet is too, so we were able to communicate the whole way!

It was a great ride. We went north on I15 for just over 30 miles and then went East on Utah 20 (which is a nice ride, just by itself), then south on US89 to Utah 12 and out to Bryce Canyon. Today, just happened to be a FREE day for the National Parks, so Justin didn't have to pay, anything to get through both parks! :) After Bryce Canyon, we headed back to US89 south and rode to Utah 9, that runs through ZION. Since both Justin and I have been through ZION, numerous times, we didn't stop. In Hurricane, Justin followed Utah 9 to I15 south, and I went north, to home. I covered 275 miles.

And YES, we saw SNOW! The last view area is about 9,000 feet up.

I'll grab the trailer tomorrow and head down in the afternoon to retrieve my bike. Justin doesn't fly out until Monday. But it made for a great day of riding!

The only problem we had the whole way, was the 2004 developed a small coolant leak. I've been needing to remove the tupperware anyway, to add a number of FARKLEs, so now I have a real reason to. lol
 
Was sunny and around 58F today so went for a ride again. Want to get some riding in before the week of rain starts in a few days. Also working on wearing out the front tire so I can replace it before FerrySTOC. It's close enough to the wear bars that I know I can likely make it all the way there but kind of iffy to make it all the way back without getting to the belts. I'll likely be changing it about 500 miles before I would need to due to wear but will anyway just for the trip. Rode about 92 miles today. Tried to go down a new county road only to have it turn to gravel 6 miles along so turned around and took another new county road (paved of course) that connected to the county highway I really was looking for.

Meanwhile back at the ranch... er... back at home... before I left on my ride I had put up the deck umbrella for my wife since the wind was not too much for it. Then as I was just getting to the farthest point from home my wife called to tell me that a very strong gust of wind suddenly came outta nowhere and lifted and broke the umbrella pole in 2 places. At the crank and also at the tilt joint. She said she ended up hurting her feet jumping out of her chair trying to catch it as it was lifting, but too late. And then could barely struggle to keep it from blowing right into a big picture window for the great room. It missed the window and ended up open laying on the deck. She put some stuff on top of it to keep it from blowing up again. Time to buy a new umbrella. Since I was more than 40 miles away there was nothing I could do about it. Nothing I could do anyway even if I was across the street. :(
 
Nicest day of the year so far, I think, so I took to the Oakland and Berkeley hills on the old CB550 and visited the redwoods. Still trying to sort out the harsh suspension and '70s brakes are crap, but the engine idles beautifully and screams when asked to. One of these days I'll get the tank repainted.

Took the CT125 trail out for a 200 mile ride out across the desert.
Found a few graded roads, lots of single track, then state 79 by the Tom Mix memorial.
I got lost at one point, and stopped and asked a cactus for directions, he was nice and pointed me in the right direction home.
Bike runs like a top! 55-58mph, 120 mpg.
Really enjoyed it.

Yesterday I participated in the motorcade escort for the National Commander of the American Legion. I've done a handful of honor guard escorts for a soldier's end of watch; but this was quite different...
We had about two dozen motorcycles, four or five CanAms, and four or five Slingshots. I'm not sure how many AL posts were represented, but it was a sight to see and hear as we rolled through town. We had LEO escort from Hinesville to Savannah and made it in record time with the blue lights clearing a path for us. It was a thrilling ride!

I didn't really get any good photos, but I did take one at the end of the ride when we stopped for lunch in Thunderbolt.

How did it take that cactus to point the home direction?
