Where did you ride today?

I finally got the 2012 ( :dr13: ) out of the garage and took it for a spin on my local figure-eight ride! Although, instead of turning off SR56 to the Chevron, I rode down to Main Street, stop at my favorite hamburger place, ran into one of Chris's friends, so I had company while I ate and talked to her and her longtime (since childhood friend). I then hit Harbor Freight for a new battery maintainer, then rode over to the Chevron and gassed up, before heading home. 58 miles, total for the day.

People who don't own a sport-touring bike would never understand that. Before the COVID lockdowns, I was thinking of riding down to Death Valley for a breakfast with some guys. That's two states away, and how many miles? Yet I looked on it as an opportunity, not a negative.

But with the right bike, it's all a good time. The wind in your face and an open road in front of you. No one but another motorcyclist would understand why anyone would ride that far for lunch with a friend...except a dog. :)

People who own almost any kind of bike or only know small bikes or mopeds don't understand. They think a long ride is maybe 30-40 miles. I'm finding that trying to sell my AK. I get a lot of people who say they are interested but are turned off by what they call the "high miles" that are on it. Less than 19K for 4 years! Those of us on this forum look at those numbers as rather LOW miles and just getting broke in (which is very true). Those who only know small bikes are scared that it's at the end of life. NOT!
 
It was such a nice day today. Temps sitting around 72F. Somewhat cloudy but clear air otherwise. So I took off for a little 61 miles ride. Went on some road sections that were closed all summer for construction but are open now. Rode down toward John Wayne's birthplace but turned onto a county highway before getting there. A nice road with a few curves.

My wife convinced me that my riding jacket was in desperate need of being washed. So after returning from the ride I emptied the pockets and removed the armor and threw it in the washer. It will likely be a few days now before I can wear it since I expect it to take that long to air dry.
 
Yup, the RFVC [only true hemi thumper] with the dual sequential carbs.... blah blah blah... could use a set of knobbies Thought it would be a good idea to ride down the fraser shore this am, well, it wasn't, you can see how far I got, I'm definitely not twenty any more, and it definitely weighs 345 pounds :laugh: almost set it [the rest of the way] down and kicked some mud over it

Needed to do some grandparent daycare duties tonight so rode the bike. Went 45 miles round trip. This was the first time riding the Vulcan S at night since I came home after 8pm... Way after dark. Seems the factory headlights work really well. Didn't have any issues seeing the road and both sides. Adding driving lights would improve things but I'd have to turn those off anyway for most of the route going home on 2 lane roads with a little traffic.

Rode the old girl, daughter on the back, to a brew pub 25 miles away when they had a location 5 miles away. I mean, who wouldn’t do that? Later I decided that I absolutely had to have sour cream for our taco dinner so naturally I had to ride to the grocery store. I haven’t been out today. Yet. There is dessert to consider.
 
Norb, that is an unusual place to have your picture taken. The big guy in the chair sure looks happy.
