) out of the garage and took it for a spin on my local figure-eight ride! Although, instead of turning off SR56 to the Chevron, I rode down to Main Street, stop at my favorite hamburger place, ran into one of Chris's friends, so I had company while I ate and talked to her and her longtime (since childhood friend). I then hit Harbor Freight for a new battery maintainer, then rode over to the Chevron and gassed up, before heading home. 58 miles, total for the day.
People who don't own a sport-touring bike would never understand that. Before the COVID lockdowns, I was thinking of riding down to Death Valley for a breakfast with some guys. That's two states away, and how many miles? Yet I looked on it as an opportunity, not a negative.Was a 373 mile round trip lunch ride.

But with the right bike, it's all a good time. The wind in your face and an open road in front of you. No one but another motorcyclist would understand why anyone would ride that far for lunch with a friend...except a dog.
