Where did you ride today?

A nicely overcast day today... IOW no bright sun in the eyes. My wife told me to ride my bike to the apple orchard to buy some donuts. So I did.
21 miles round trip. 43 deg F (I put my temp sensor in the clear pocket of my tank bag). I haven't yet put on the Kemimoto bar muffs but I did wear my old cotton glove liners from my military chemical suit and that was warm enough. There are a few days in the next week or so claiming temps will get into the 60s F but I might put the muffs on anyway.

Rode to the Iowa Orchard store. Bought some Apple Cider donuts. I asked about getting an apple pie :pie1: but she said not this time. They still looked really good.

Still had a few tires from replacing the rubber on my AK so I strapped them on the tail of my Vulcan S and took the side roads to the recycle drop off center... the only place I could get rid of old rubber other than going directly to the dump. They do charge the same at the drop off center as at the dump but the center is closer. Still ended up with 52 miles round trip on side roads. It was a nice mostly sunny day with very little wind and temps around 60F... starting out at 59F and getting up to 62F.

Several days ago I put on my Kemimoto handle bar muffs and this was the first ride with them on. I wore my summer gloves and my hands were almost too hot. I found that there is a zipper along the full length of the inner side of the muffs that allow them to open enough to slip over the stalk mirrors and grips and levers without removing the mirrors. The slot for the mirror stalks to fit through is closed on the inner end so I was thinking it would be more difficult than it was. Turned out to be really easy. The zipper opening is baffled so it doesn't really open and remains wind/waterproof.

Things are probably different there, but I just go to the nearest car tire store and ask if I can recycle my tires there. They always say sure and I carry them over to the pile of tires they're recycling and its no charge. Maybe that would work in your neighborhood too?

That would be nice but no. I never see any piles of tires around those places since they pay for a pick up regularly.
It was $8 per tire.
 
Robert, it wasn't that they had a huge pile, but that in this case, they stacked the old tires for recycling off on the side of the building. I never take it for granted that I can just toss my tires into their stack of recycled tires. I always go to the front counter first and ask if it is possible.

Even if they keep them inside the building, they'll have a stack of tires to recycle -- somewhere. And if you go to the front counter, they'll tell you where to take them. $16 for a set of tires isn't much, but it's gas money at the least for another ride. ;)

I've taken my old tires to two different tire shops. Both said it was no problem.

Maybe if you ride in your imagination that will be good enough?
At least until the next time you swing a leg over your bike in the garage and make vroom vroom noises.
Sometimes that works for me.
 
Daycare services called for today. Both granddaughters needed someone to be home when their buses dropped them off this afternoon. No need to take anyone anyplace so I rode. Just over 44 miles round trip.

My 9 yr old granddaughter had leg surgery just over a week ago to correct a twist in her right leg. That makes one son and 2 grandkids who needed surgery for leg/hip corrections. We knew Kinlee was going to need this and finally getting it done. Not as invasive as my grandson but still needs the leg in a brace for 6 weeks and getting around in a wheelchair. She was one of the grandkids I needed to be there for when the special bus dropped off at the driveway.

What's this "put them away" thing you speak of???
Just put some Sta-Bil in the tank at each fill just in case the roads take a while to clear and ride every day you can every month. That's what I do. Though I'm waiting for some seriously cold temps to see if I can continue to do that on a bike with no wind protection... no fairing and no windshield.
 
We used to have the PaulCB Memorial Cold Weather contest for who could ride in the coldest temps.

There's no such thing as bad weather, just bad gear. And that new XR has traction control... ;)

It’s more about the brine and salt they put out if it snows. Then we have to wait for a couple good rains before we venture out again.
