Where did you ride today?

I did have to go and say that (my last post).
Wanted to ride again today but before I could put on my gear the snow flakes started small and fast. Then bigger. Not a lot but enough. The temps barely above freezing and the deck has ice on it. All the streets wet with potential for slick pavement so my ride is postponed until tomorrow.
 
I like Great Value Dark Chocolate bars. Not so much Hershey's. The GV bars are 50% cocoa instead of just 40%. Since the local Walmart always seems to be out of stock on these I decided to look at other locations. Found them 3 towns over. Seemed like a good excuse for a ride. It was a sunny day today with temps around low to mid 30s*F. Hooked the hand warmers inside the handlebar muffs. Took a few roads less traveled this time. The hand warmers didn't make it for the entire ride. They advertise lasting long enough but they didn't. Not sure when they shut down but they did make it more than half way. Having the warmers just laying in the muffs under my fingers did make a difference. My hands were very warm. The warmers are supposed to last at least 4 hours on high. They didn't. The ride today was 65 miles and I took 2.5 hrs including the stop at the store. I think they quit just before the end of the ride since my fingers were still very warm all the way home. Maybe I didn't have them full charge when I started. I did leave the warmers turned on while I was in the store. I put my gloves inside the muffs on top of them to warm up the gloves. That did work well.

Give a higher percentage a try if you never have. Up around 75% is good. Getting to far over 80% becomes increasingly less appealing as it starts to taste like bakers chocolate.

I have had up to 80% at times. Usually when given gourmet dark chocolate as a gift. Not a fan at that concentration of cocoa for the reason stated. 60% is good. But dark chocolate at the higher percentages always costs more. I'm not interested in spending more. 50% is good.
 
Took a slightly longer ride than I usually do. Rode 94 miles today. Stopped by John Wayne's (the Duke) birthplace and museum in Winterset, IA.
There's the tiny little house where he was born. And around the corner is the museum with his statue in front and tiles around the corner in front/side showing the movies he was in... like Hollywood squares.

My wife suggested I go for a ride this afternoon.
I've learned that when she says "you should go for a ride" that really means "go for a ride... and while you're out..."
She wanted me to stop by the grocery store and buy some Cara Cara Oranges. She bought one last week by mistake and is hooked on them now. They are a bit more red and sweeter than typical oranges.

So I went for a ride. After the first 20 miles she texted and asked if I found them yet. Nope. Haven't found them. But maybe when I actually stop at the store I might.
Sure enough, I did find them when I stopped at the store... which was 5 miles away from the usual store we go to. Ended up with 29 miles for this little ride.

But I needed to fill the tank so I rode anyway.
NOW she says I'm crazy...

Took the long way to the gas station 33.9 miles, then filled up with only 2.9 gallons (3.7 gal tank), then 1.3 miles home for a total of 35.2 miles. Temps stayed around the mid 20s*F all the way around (23*F to 26*F). Battery heated gloves set to medium and were plenty warm enough. Not bad for $30 gloves.

From Amazon. Cheap. Though I notice the price went up $5 since I bought them 10 days ago. But they seem to work for what I need. They will barely last 3 hours on high for sure. But maybe more than 4 hours on medium. So far they have lasted longer than the manual claims which is highly unusual. My "scientific" testing consisted of putting them on my desk at home with the temp set to high to see how long the battery lasts. One glove died at 3 hours 18 minutes and the other glove died at 3 hours 20 minutes. The manual says 3 hrs for high, 4 hrs for medium, 5.5 hrs for low. So far I've gone riding with them on medium a few times for 1.5 hrs and all 4 of the power indicator lights stayed on meaning at least 80% charge remaining. They do take a while for the heat to move out to the finger tips but it does get there. So far I typically turn them on high while checking the tire psi and gearing up before a ride just to "pre-heat" them and then turn them down to medium when I put them on. The only padding (can't call it armor) is pretty good like any good winter glove should be. So far I'm happy with them. Not as good as my Gerbing heated gloves were but I don't have those any more and didn't want to spend the price to replace those. So IMO very good for the price.

I am also using Kemimoto handlebar muffs but cold air infiltrates into those more than I'd like... better than without however. Tomorrow morning I am hoping to post something on the PaulCB Coldest Ride contest and mention how these gloves did at below zero*F. Tomorrow is supposed to have a high temp of zero*F but won't get there until 4 pm and then for only a spike up and back down again.

...but!...but!...but! What do you mean by nothing exciting? I'm from Seattle, and coffee is always exciting! Well, unless it is Folgers or other swill. ;)

So, do you prefer your coffee by the cup? Or just injected straight into the veins with an IV to get the best effect?
