Seeing more and more of these and many to choose from. Anybody has a recommendation for one of them? How does it compare with the Laminar Lip?

Very happy with my Laminar Lip but I know it will fly off from its velcro attachements sooner or later!

I have a bolt on version of this on my super tender and it works great. This is a clamp on version.

Thanks.

Was actually wondering about the smaller ones we see more and more around, that fit up in the middle of the screen, like on the pix (and also more in my price range...!)

But this MRA X-Creen looks looks like a solid replacement for a Laminar Lip. Looks adjustable as well? How long have you had it?

4 years but had one on the vstrom I had as well, highly adjustable.

I've had my 'Lip on for 4 years, and never had it "fly off". When putting it on, did you clamp it (gently) overnight ?

I do have one velcro that doesn't fully seat against the windshield, due to the curvature there, so I drilled a small hole and put a SS screw & nut through that one - just to be sure.

I'll never use the windshield without the Lip, so no big deal to drill a small hole or two...

You can order new velcro's from Laminar also.

The Laminar Lip is great, wouldn't ride the ST without it !

I bought one of those 'budget' models from Amazon. It's made well, goes on easy, is adjustable and works very well... I could create a nice pocket of calm air around my head. The only negative thing, and it's a major one, is that the center clamp is right in the middle of my vision when mounted on my taller screen. In normal riding, I look just over the top of the screen and that clamp is right where I look, therefore I took it off, reluctantly. I need to try it on my shorter screen and see how it works.

Thanks. Makes sense. Would not work for me either. May have to wait until our fearless leader decides to put his MRA X-Creen for sale to be able to afford it.

Had mine for a good 10 years. Works great for me as far as quieting the air flow. But original velcro type dots did not work very well and Laminar has already sent free replacements. And the Lip is slightly warped (from day one) and if fitted well on one side will not match all the dots on the other (am apprehensive about drilling as you did as I do ride without the Lip at times). And this is already a replacement Lip by Laminar (after much back and forth), first one had even more warping.

Here in Texas, with the heat, the Velcro attachements have limited life. The Lip also needs frequent cleaning from the bugs, you may have noticed that strangely enough there is a lot of splattering taking place on the INSIDE of the Lip (between the Lip and Shield) and the Lip has to be removed for a good cleaning at the end of the day as the space under the lip is too small for a hand to fit through. The Velcro dots do not take this frequent removal very well (with the heat, they will come unglued from the shield after a few years, instead of at the velcro mesh). Makes the expensive clamp-on MRA X-Creen used by our fearless leader look pretty attractive.

HA!!!!!!!

Need some advice. I've never had a deflector, so this is a new gadget. I think previously you said you had a bolt on? Is there any reason not to get a clamp on? I am just thinking that if I get a bolt on and don't like it, now the holes are there. By the way, I have a Clearview screen (if that matters).

Yeah, w/clamp on you can resell... I just took a chance w/bolt on.

I have just fitted one to my st1100.
With the stock windscreen I was getting the wind blast right into my eyes with a lot of wind noise.
The clamp-on unit worked well, giving me clean air and less wind roar.
My only problem was that, even at the lowest position it was in my line of sight.
I modified it by moving the flip screen mounting fitment more to the centre (I raised it up the flip screen by one bolt hole, thus lowering the flip screen when fitted to the bike).
I was very careful when drilling the new hole in the screen, starting with the smallest drill size and moving up step by step.
The result is that the screen is now approx 1" above the top edge of the original screen when in the lowest position, and when adjusted to be parallel to the rake at the top of the screen it works extremely well.

Just need to get some miles in now to see how it does long term (pity the winter weather appears to be starting to make itself known).

I had a Laminar Lip. Installed it as per the instructions. About a month after I had installed it, I was riding at highway speed (110km/h, about 65mph) on a day when the wind was gusting directly from the side at 90kmh (55mph). The velcro connection let go on the windward side. I removed it and have not used it since then.

I ordered one of these on Ebay for $31.xx(clamps on top edge) I have a homemade one on my Vstrom that works like magic. I've made 'em for many of my bikes. But for this price, it's a no brainer to just buy one, IF the hardware isn't junk. (It's from China, and 3 weeks or more to receive)Also got a used Helibar mount, gen 2. The ST bars are unbearable for me, and the windshield creates SO much turbulence when it's up fairly high. I want the wider width down lower, and with the screen high, getting behind a semi truck is downright scarey!!! It's like a sail! Anyhow, these 2 items should make my new to me ST1300 bearable.

BTW, could've got the same thing on Amazon for another 5 bucks, but the shipping estimate was even longer. But Amazon would definitely be the safer buy.

Mounts are allen screws with plastic mountings with rubber grips at the fix point and they are great. Just done a 500+ mile trip to Wales and back and it was brilliant - I look over the top but it can be adjusted several ways (see website) and they even supply the allen keys! comes clear or tinted. Just added the pilot's eye view for you.
