Interesting points taken.
It reminds me of some of the first things I learned in statistics in pursuit of my business degree -

and
"Torture the data enough and it will confess to anything!"
As he well pointed out, ratios and such all are based on assumptions and if the basis is skewed, so will the ratio be.
