With 8 weeks to go, we're hanging....on every update. Doing some trip planning and will probably leave ON a few days earlier, any recommendations for things to see that we won't see on the rides? Thinking maybe Gaspe loop or a side trip to PEI? Asking for recommendations for motels/hotels/B&Bs if anyone has some? Looking forward for our return to the Maritimes!
Cherie and I did the Gaspe Bay a few years ago and stayed in Perce which was really nice, big enough to have a choice of a fe2 restaurants. We stayed at a B&B there and the rooms where very small but comfortable and the hosts where very friendly and we had great conversation even though our French was as limited as their English. I can’t remember the name of the place but I will see if can find it in our photos. The north side of the peninsula is the more scenic part, kind of reminiscent of the Cabot Trail.

Nice photos Gerhard! We're still working on routes etc., looks like time restraints will negate Gaspe this trip, but hoping for a side trip to PEI.
You can camp near our dome as long as you keep the snoring to a minimum.
If we have domes beside each other, we'll put him between and we both can hear him! Or my snoring cancels him out, like white noise ;)

Surrounded by dome domes.... makes Rob Happy.

Once again today, I dropped in at River Run Resort. Got the latest progress report on the purchase and sale situation of our WoodSToc venue. In a nutshell, when lawyers get involved in a commercial real estate transaction, both vendor and purchaser find themselves "in limbo" with regard to making any decisions around property improvements or renovations. In our cabin situation, time between the closing date of the sale (tentatively July 12) and our arrival date (August 15) will be short regarding getting at least three cabins habitable. I can't help but be nervous, and yet various items in the legal office are moving along well enough. I had a lengthy conversation with my usual contact and yes, he's stressed! There's a deposit in trust, both parties have signed agreements. However lawyers get paid to check every possible shortcoming.
I composed a fairly lengthy email addressed to both new and old owners, describing our STOC background, and asking for their word (new owners) on timing that works for our schedule, and sent it off to my contact. (the present manager/owner) He'll forward it to the new folks, and I'll hopefully get some reassurance!
More to come, hopefully tomorrow...
As Mama used to say - it'll all work out! So I'm adding - it'll be great!

Well I’m out for this event. Just got back from the hospital and from finding out I have a broken ankle. Not sure how that happened. But I’m now in a cast and unable to drive/ride for several weeks. Wish I could have been there. Have fun and be safe everyone.

Finally, an update! After much to and for discussion between the vendors and the buyers of our venue, "River Run Resort & Grill", it has become apparent that their transaction won't close until the end of August. This means that although the previously booked domes are good to go, (and btw Rob, you can park your gypsy wagon between any two domes who'll have you!) there'll be no cabins! There's a very nice bed and breakfast a three minute ride away, with two rooms available for our time frame. The owners are saving those for us.
So to all who need a bed and are not part of the dome crowd, please let me know! Between Obo and myself, I'm sure we can find something for all comers...
The Saturday night dinner will be in the events hall at the venue. My daughter and grandaughter (they're quite handy in the kitchen) will fry up some weiners and beans, and you'll be grateful! There'll be a cash pot for dinner donations, no fixed fee, and no tax.
Dome dwellers can hopefully supply some coffee each morning for anyone needing a wakeup punch.
Breakfast each morning means leaving at 8, and riding for 12 minutes to "Ivy's Diner". Good food, good value, and 15% discount for cash! Btw, there's gas on site.
More later, hang on while I go get some ink for my quill...

Some good news after bad. I saw the orthopaedic doctor on Tuesday this week regarding my broken ankle. He put me in an air cast and I went back to work on Wednesday. I can drive and my work is providing help for the physical labour that goes with what I do for a living with my driving of a truck locally.
I’m on vacation this week and things feel real good with the air cast and addition of crutches for extended walking around.
This to say, I see the doc on August 6 and should be back on two wheels and able to ride east on August 10 as planned.
If all works out I’ll be able to meet at the breakfast meet on the Thursday and Friday before riding for the day with y’all.
I would be heading home the Saturday morning.
So my attendance may still happen. Cheers!

A bit more about accommodation... from what I see on the attendee list, most are booked into domes. Rob has his own abode on wheels. Kevin (FJRider) has relatives who'll put a roof over his head. I can scoot home to my own bed. That just leaves Art. There are two rooms, each with a queen bed, reserved for us at "Strong Timbers BnB", which is right next door. So as it stands, we have one vacant room there. Beyond that, there are options available, maritimers are known to be accommodating, and beds are available. Let me know, and I'll dig into it!

The resort is also a campground and has spots down by the water. I think there were up to a dozen, for those folks wanting to tent. No idea how fast those book up. The washroom in the main building was a bit of a hike up the hill though (when you gotta go, yo gotta go,) unless they got the new lower ones completed. Unsure if those followed along with the same as the cabin saga. :rofl1:

Yesterday's great bike ride was about looking for places worth seeing / stopping at, when we do our "exceptional group ride." I found a distillery, looked interesting, we'll include a stop there. The gentleman I chatted with recommended a nearby lunch stop, with a fabulous view. So naturally, I rode over to have a look-see. I was blown away! It had me thinking of racing around on a dirt bike, but I'm certain that would be frowned upon... However, for a tasty lunch and the view from the dining deck area, it's second to none! Can't wait! https://coveredbridgegolf.nb.ca/

George, are you looking at riding in nearby areas like McAdam, Blacks Harbour, Saint John? Or up to Riverview, Hopewell Rocks? Or even venturing to cross the Confederation Bridge to PEI? Just curious.

Since we'll have a number of couples with us, I plan to keep the distance somewhat moderate. My preference is to avoid higher traffic areas and include ample washroom breaks. The McAdam railway museum, as well as St. Andrews, will be on the list, not sure which day. Although I'm setting up the Friday route, someone else will lead Saturday.

Will there be a Thursday route or just Friday and Saturday?
