WoodSToc Aug 17-20, 2023 - Woodstock, NB

George, I'm not going to make Woodstock. My bad. My passport expired, my bad. I do have 1 on those enhance drivers license. The one with a gold star. I was told/read as good as a passport-not. I'm not sure now what it's really good for? Cost extra 80 dollars for what? Oh 8 to 13 weeks for new passport. I'm working on that.

I'm no EDL expert, but it looks like you might be able to use that to cross into Quebec, then hop over to NB. (according to the 2nd link)
However you're correct some of the documentation says it's OK for all provinces, as long as it's not by travel by air.

It looks like any US border will accept it when you are coming back in lieu of a passport, but only certain Canadian provinces recognize them (Quebec, Ontario, Manitoba and British Columbia) when you are coming over.

If in doubt you could always inquire to CBSA as to if they are acceptable at the Woodstock NB crossing.

You may also be OK with the EDL or a passport card vs a full passport, if you are not traveling by air.

Planning a trip?

If you are planning to travel to Canada, Mexico, Bermuda or the Caribbean, an enhanced driver license (EDL) or an enhanced non-driver photo ID card (ENDID) is an acceptable form of identification to enter the U.S. by land or sea.

The U.S. passport card is another option for land and sea border travel. The wallet-sized passport card is convenient and less expensive than the passport book, and costs $45 for a first-time adult applicant. A new U.S. passport book can cost more than $100.

These are all convenient alternatives, but the U.S. passport card, EDL and ENDID
will not take the place of a passport book for international travel by air.

Obviously, you need to double check these in advance before just showing up at the border. The internet isn't always accurate. ;)

I didn't look at any of the links but this strikes me as odd. Immigration and border control is a federal responsibility and jurisdiction, shouldn't it be the same rules regardless of what province the border a person is crossing is located in?

Yes, but it IS the federal government and since when is anything normal or consistent with them. :rofl1:

You've also got provincial tied into that as drivers licenses in Canada are not federally mandated. If part of the difference is an RFID chip in the licnse, not everywhere may be equipped to read that. Obviously not everywhere issues it.

I'm still "a go" for WoodSToc. I have ferry booked to and from Newfoundland. Solo traveler. I plan to head to Maine and NH for a couple of days prior. Guess it's time for me to start thinking about where I will be staying when there? Camphing with my Travlite trailer. It's going to be a time!!!!

Worst case scenario there's a Walmart....

Obo the marketing man, he twists a lot of arms. Hopefully the sore arms won't prevent anyone from seeing the light, and the scenic sights. And also it'll be a good thing to bend elbows for food and drink. My point? Come to WoodSToc! We're ready!

No direct experience, although I did park my travel trailer (since sold) at Connell Park Campground over the winter. That would be my first choice. Also, Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park is an OK option.
