Was able to get out for a short 110 miles Mid Winter's Ride, yesterday. The temps in the City (Denver) were 51 but the temps out East dropped to 41. A bit chilly, as I was not wearing my electric gear. Rode South East down to Elbert and back. This was the first time the FJR has been out this year. Felt good to pilot it out on the country roads. Here are a few pictures.

Do you have any particular rule of thumb about how long to wait to ride after a heavy road salting? BTW, getting a McCruise installed on the VX3 this week.

They don't use salt. Very low humidity and sun melts the snow off and dries the roads in a few days. Only thing is the melt off gets the bikes dirty so I clean them after each ride. In the mountains that is a different story. Lots of gravel and shadows in the back road twisties.

Another Mid Winters Ride X300.

Finally after almost a month and a half of the new year 2023, I was able to get the Little Gray Bike (Versys X300) out for some exercise. Rode it up over Rampart Range ridge and down along one of my favorite rides, the South Plate river to the Deckers Cafe'. Lots of Anglers out today along the river. The roads were not to bad, as far as melt off, and the three miles of dirt road (W Pinecreek Rd) with a 15% grade drop down to the river, was not too muddy. Only a handful of soft wet spots. Of course the bike needs a wash now. Temps were in the upper 50's today with no wind to speak of. A very pleasant day for another mid winter ride. 110 miles total for a cup of coffee on the Decker's Café patio.

Took a short ride up to Echo Lake today. Temps in the City were 75 and temps at Echo Lake were 53. Beautiful blue sky and very light traffic up 103 to the lake. Still quite a bit of snow at 11000 feet, but with the warmer weather this week, should start the melting run off period. Took a few pictures and mapped out the route. All the picture were on the way up Highway 103 to Echo Lake. To get there the road peaks out at 11000 ft. and the lake is about 10200 ft. in altitude. Total miles round trip 122.

Yesterday I rode my FJR up into the High Country. Today I was able to get the Big Versys out for a ride into the Foothills west of Denver. Temp in the City were forecasted to be 82 and in the foothills a very comfortable 75. Rode about 133 miles. A bit of sand in the corners so had to take it easy. Started up Golden Gate Canyon and finished by coming down North Turkey Creek and Deer Creek Canyons. Riding season is here. Enjoy some of the pictures I took along the way.

On the way back down from the Cabin. The road turned to dirt so I turned around. I will go back with my little Versys X300 and ride the dirt road through.

Just got back from riding the Big Versys up and over Guanella Pass. Left the house about 07:15 to be able to beat the weekend traffic. 150 miles round trip of beautiful Green landscape (With all the rain we have been getting) against the deep blue early morning Colorado Mountain skies. Here are a few pictures of the Versys up on Guanella.

@ChucksKLRST I love it when you make me hate you for living in CO.
The Rockies are spectacular, as are your photos. (But all the snow... no good for motorbike riding!)
So do you have a trail bike to get up the high passes, like Black Bear, Ophiles, Engineers and the like?
Preparing to take delivery of my GSA, I've been watching YouTube videos of these elephantine monstrosities tackling the loose rock and steep rutted trails at the highest levels. Sensible riders will take mid-size bikes like 350s to 700s, but there are those like me who would be thrilled to ride an oversized GS up there, just because...
But the woods and trail riding there could keep me entertained for a lifetime.
In between snows, anyway...

I have a little X300 Versys, and also a V-Strom 650 for the dirt. Rode all the dirt all in my younger years with a KLR650 and a DR650. Don't do much 4x4 jeep trails anymore just, a few county dirt roads. It hurts when I fall down.

What happened to your ST?
I had to sell it to buy a car. It would have been too much money and hassle to get it to colorado Ill have another bike soon. Im not done riding.
I have to say, including visiting my kids, i spent 9 months over two and a half years away from home. Being where my kids live and in the land i like riding in, i suspect my tours will b shorter and slower. Ill find another ride!
