Grip Glue For Heated Grips Revisited

I need to re-glue my throttle side grip. Went to grab a hand full of throttle and it just spun on the bar. I was looking at different threads here but didn't see anything within the last couple years. I've read everything from hairspray and grip glue to epoxy and gorilla glue. Anybody come across any new products that they recommend? I'm a little hesitant to use hairspray or epoxy/gorilla glue, but I'll defer to your experience.

Also, if I wanted to by a honda shop manual for the bike, does the year matter very much? If I bought a 2003 manual, would that be ok or is there enough difference that I need to buy a 2007 manual? Thanks.

I've always used hairspray (the cheaper the better) and not had a problem on my ST1100s. I have the Symtec heaters and the Rojen grips on all three ST1100s.

I've only used hairspray. Glue not necessary.

Hairspray, but get the cheapest unscented kind. (don't want an unmanly fragrance on the bike...) It's really slippery until the hairspray vehicle flashes off (sometimes this takes a while.) New guys always ask why there's hair spray on the garage shelf. (It obviously isn't to keep Desmo Steve and me well coiffed...) The unscented hair spray is also a great propellant for potato guns...

As an alternative if you lack hair spay but have some styling gel, I went that way and it worked fine. It took a bit longer for it to dry out but it did and has hes well.

Don't use gorilla glue. It IS impossible to remove if you make a mistake. I ruined some grips on a botched install. Excessive glue ran out on install and I had to remove it and start over. Nothing will cut gorilla glue. I'll never buy it again.

I've used Renthal grip glue and most recently Scott glue to secure Symtec heaters under NC700X grips.

You can use the excess hairspray to prepare your back hair in case you want to mow a picture of Dinkie in it.

+1 on the hair spray.
cheapest extra hold stuff works fine or whatever is in the cabinet that didn't have a name on it.

I always use Honda grip glue. Cheaper than any other grip glue also.

On my last long trip (lap of Lake MI) I was cruising along and all of a sudden the bike started to slow down. I came to a stop on the shoulder and revved the bike with no issues. Got rolling again and every gear progressively accelerated slower and the bike started to slow again. Took me a few seconds to realize I was hitting the end of the heated grip cable. I rode for a solid hour with a hulk grip on the throttle before I pulled into a Napa for some hose clamps to get me home.

A Google search "glue for heated grips" turned up ST-Owners as the first result. Headed to get some hair spray tomorrow. Hoping to get a ride to the U.P. in this weekend.

Aquanet extra deathgrip blue hair flavor. The rest of the can makes a good flame thrower for that pesky wasps nest...

That grip that was spinning around won't come off in the garage for the fix withou a battle. A little blast from a non osha approved air gun will float it right off.

Good old Elmers white glue is what I've always used.

Well.. take that back, one time did use hairspray, but the ex took her can back and I still had the Elmers.

LOL. Just as well I think the titebond type iii is preferred for fixing brooms ...

A thin stripe of gray RTV gasket maker does it for me. Don't put much on so you can remove the grip at a later date if necessary.

While hairspray worked fine for my grips, the question is, would Honda Grip Glue work in my potato gun?

(Installed three sets with hair spray. Put a LOT on and it will act as a nice lubricant until it flashes)

Me too, one tube has lasted years and it was really cheap.

I installed my Oxford heated grips with hairspray yesterday morning today I can spin them easily. Take over 24 hours to dry or do I need to use the glue that came with them?
