Hi everyone, just bought ST1300PA with just 18K-miles on clock. Had been sitting at dealer and never sold to PD. Immediately took it on 300-mile up to Yarnell today. Lots of fun and it handled twisties awesomely. Looking forward to learning more about this bike! :thumb:

Somebody want to direct him in my direction….I don’t want to scare him :rofl1:

Welcome to the family.

@DannoXYZ FYI @Igofar is know here as the ST Whisperer. If you want to find out anything that's not up to snuff on your bike, he's the person for the job.

I'm also assuming he's not that far away if you wanted to ride for a visit / consult. If not, he does calls on the "white courtesy phone" too!

Many of us would be thrilled if we lived close enough for that opportunity!!

While you might not like some of the things he might find, it's all about keeping your ride safe and running proper for a long time. It will usually also save you money in the long run as prevention is often cheaper than replacement of things.

Thanks for welcome!

I actually didn't buy from dealer, but mechanic who works for them. He's been using as commuter. Still have single-seat cowl in box that was never installed. Along with shotgun holder, and rear-rack/crash-bar. I take it these are items that's not installed at factory but are done by dealers before delivery to PD?

All wiring for sirens, flasher lights, radio are still intact since that stuff was never installed. Also connectors not chopped off like ex-PD bikes.

I also got box with original mufflers. Gonna put OEM mufflers back on 1st. Don't really like loud exhausts (even on my racebikes), gives me headaches on long rides, even with earplugs.

I'm actually more interested in insulating saddlebags better. Tried bringing some cold drinks along for ride in 111F weather. Unfortunately, ice-cubes didn't last long. ahahahhah...

I've seen some with black crash bars. Is that from someone just removing them and painting?

@DannoXYZ there's likely a decent market for the old police items if you didn't want them. A lot of the escort companies might want those. No idea what those go for but I'd think it would be a decent price given they are new and likely not easy to acquire now.

Welcome to the forum from :canflag1:
Couple comments to your posts you made:
Look at getting a OEM top box as my 6 pack thermos cooler keeps my drinks frosty cold for an 8 hours ride
I just picked up a brand new in box NOS-OEM candy red (2005) top box for $250, there out there.
I'm with you on the stock mufflers, super quiet compared to aftermarket ones.
Bleed your brakes yearly on these bikes too, the LBS system on this bike is awesome and likes clean fluid, especially the SMC.
Also, check out the articles on here, tried and true methods on ST maintence items.
Other than that, get out and enjoy the comfort of being on a ST1300 like you are doing, there is nothing like it IMHO.

I wouldn't go that route. The room that the insulation uses reduces the cargo space available. Much easier to get a good quality soft-sided cooler that you can throw in whenever you want it. When it is empty it takes much less room than a rigid cooler. When you aren't using it you still have the full volume of the saddlebag available.
