I had a bad Verge 011 (front) -- the tire was actually out of round and would produce horrible headshake. Oh well, that happens!
I burned through my Continental RoadAttack III's in ~5000 miles. While they were _amazing_ from mile 0 onwards, that's half the mileage I was expecting. Or less. So I'm thinking:

* Verge 011 (front and rear) -- I seem to think that @Kevin_56 said that he runs a Raven 009 rear but ??? on the front
* Dunlop Roadsmart III -- have 'em on another bike and am happy so far
* Bridgestone T31GT or T32GT - the price is within 10 bucks/pair right now.

Can anybody compare these for me?
I can be a fairly demanding rider at times.

I've worn out 2 Shinko Verges rear tires and one front. The first rear had almost 8,000 miles and the second rear was worn out at 7,000 miles. The front lasted 14,000 miles. I did find out the end of last year that my tire gauge was reading @ 5 lbs higho_O. I just mounted a Shinko Raven on the rear and another Verge on the front. The Raven is supposed the be a little harder than the Verge. I never got over 8,000 miles on 2 rear Pirellis or one rear Avon that I've run. I've been very happy running Shinkos. When they get close to the wear bars change them. Mine were at the bars the end of last year and I took one final 500 mile ride. The tire was very bald when I got home.

when i had shinko's on my ST 1300 i had a 11 up front and a 09 out back. the first 8000 miles they were good tires wet or dry and much more stable than the bridgestones ( i don't know the number of the stones } that was on my bike when i got it but the steering response was slower than the angle GT's that the shinko's replaced

Can someone explain where the wear indicators are on the Shinko Verge 011. This is a picture of my rear tire on my 2004 ST1300 which I have owned for a year. I've put 5000 miles on it and I'm not sure how many miles the PO had put on this tire (he said it was replaced towards the end of the previous season). 20210514_150132.jpg How do I tell when it needs to be replaced?

Shinkos don't need indicators, cause they don't wear out :)

Seriously though, let me go check my front for comparison

EDIT : here's one on my front. It wasn't immediately noticable - had to look for it and touch it to verify

To further clarify my previous post with photo ... the indicators are in the grooves than "end" as a sharp point, not the grooves that end "squared off"

I looked at my front and it has the bumps in the long groove as you have shown in your picture. The rear has nothing in those grooves. I think I will order a new rear Shinko 011 and have it for comparison before it is time to put it on. In Canada it seems that JP Cycles has the best prices $108 cdn delivered. Thanks for your help.

I found the tiny arrows on the rear tire sidewall and looked at the long grooves adjacent to the arrows. There is an almost imperceptible bump at those locations. I made scuff with my finger on tire at that location in the pictures. I wonder if the bumps didn't get molded quite right in this particular tire?
Thanks for your help.20210514_185431.jpg20210514_185457.jpg

Here's how I think about it.

The wear bars will be VERY obvious when it's time.

They are imperceptible through 50-60%, then you will see them more clearly at 80% ... or maybe 90% . : )

Since I read all good reviews about Shinkos, I just wanted to experience it. So I installed the 011 in front and the first impression is terrible. It doesn't want to turn, especially at low speed. It stubbornly handles, even worse than my old unequally warned T31. The pressure is at 41 PSI. Maybe because it's new... dunno, but haven't experienced anything like it with Bridgestones.
The profile of the tire causes the slow turn in. Mine has ~4,000 miles on it. Goes down the road just fine. I like the slower turn in. You might play with the rear preload to see if you can alter the turn in caused by the new tire.

Your just wearing the release film off.
My Verge(s) are handling much better than any of the Bridgestone's or Dunflop's that I've run.
Break them in, you'll enjoy them.
Keep us posted.
