How small can a vacuum pump get, my experience has been in automotive sizes. But if you take a garbage bag and put a sleeping bag into it and seal it around a vacuum pump hose it will get seriously small when the air is pulled out. should work with clothes too. Just do not let children play with the bags, they are a choking hazard.... Wait a minute....my kids wanted me to play with one......

Yes it has been around for a long time, my first introduction was my mom getting big amounts of clothes and sensible stuff into small boxes for Xmas.

I wouldn't store a down sleeping bag like that for any period of time. Not the best way to keep the loft in a down bag.How to turn a 0 degree bag into a 40 degree one ...

PS. My vacuum has wheels. Maybe get high speed bearings and tow it, will need looooonnnnnnngggg extension cord though

I use compression bags for my down blankets. Basically a stuff bags with 2 long straps and buckles with belt loops sown onto the bag to keep the straps in place. The fluff up again pretty quickly draped over the flysheet. I use the vacuum bags for packing clothes in the panniers.
