Where did you ride today?

This was a short trip. I lead a Life Group at church, if you're not familiar with the term, think of a combination of a Bible study and sharing Life with others.

Anyway, it was a great excuse for a ride, but I felt a picture was needed...or it didn't happen. :D

If all goes well, I'm heading up the Mt. Baker Highway again tomorrow. The last part leading to Artist Point is closed, but I should be able to get to Heather Meadows and I'll hike Upper and Lower Bagley Lakes.

Nice couple day ride throughout the dragon area with Wytheville VA as base camp. Beautiful weather, and fall foliage, in the middle of the week to avoid the crowds.

I did ride up to Heather Meadows and hiked the loop around Upper and Lower Bagley Lakes.

I've been blessed this year. I rode up to Artist Point on the 8th, and it closed for the season on the 16th. That's the last 2.7 miles beyond Heather Meadows on the Mt. Baker Highway. I rode to Heather Meadows yesterday and that'll probably be the last time for the season for that ride as well. The DOT crews have started putting sand on the road. So I feel like I made my trip, just in time.

On the way up Hwy 9. If you look closely, you can see the snow-capped dome of Mt. Baker to the left of the jagged peaks.

There's a great feeling to walking back to your bike and just loving the look. You can see the snow removal equipment in the background. Those peaks in the background are in Canada.

I got started with a "forum" a couple decades ago. I usually referred to it as "The Rounders", although the website had a different name. A Rounder is someone who rides year around, with different categories. They were devising ways to ride back in the day when heated gear was just being thought of, and they would make their own.

A couple of the guys lived in places like Minnesota and Michigan. They installed car tire studs in their motorcycles so they could ride in the snow and ice.

Where there's a will, there's a way! :D

Total respect for him. I've ridden down to 16F, but only when the roads are dry.

But I have had more than one situation where I pushed the limits. I was going to a team meeting for a prison ministry in a nearby town. The weather forecast said it would be in the 40's later that day, and so I wanted to ride. I headed out of my driveway and the snow flakes were starting. Just tiny little things, but I was expecting, hoping it would quit. It didn't. In fact, the snow "flakes" were more like ice crystals. They never stopped. They came through the closed vents in my helmet like little needles hitting my face. All the while I was asking myself why I was on the motorcycle instead of the Subaru Outback. I mean, it has heated seats, heated windshield wipers, heated mirrors, all wheel drive, ...and I'm on two wheels wondering when it'll be only one wheel???? Where's the sense in that???? So for 25 minutes, I kept telling myself how stupid I was.

And on the way home when the temperature was 45 degrees, I felt sooooo goooood. :D :D :D

Brain was a little foggy this morning (so I got up late)....Wilson girls were gone from an overnight stay.....wife said I was Heartless and I didn't have the courage to argue....so I went for a ride to see the Wizard of Oz....Followed the yellow brick road through some apple orchards until I saw the Twisted Sisters' taco stand owned by three witches (it is Taco Tuesday!) but when I pulled in the witches' pets (they looked like flying Monkees) started throwing rotten apples at me...."I'm not going to take this, no I'm not going to take this, I'm not going to take this anymore" so I rode on....pulled in at the Wizard's office but his receptionist Dorothy said the wiz was out for the day and all she wanted to do was sell me Toto....didn't feel like driving through the rains in Africa to get them so kicked some dust on her ruby slippers and headed for home....Riding is good therapy and soon my brain, heart, and courage were restored to normal levels :biggrin: There's no place like home!! Russ. (107 miles today)....
 
There was a high wind warning forecast for today in Kansas so I hit the road 4:50 am when it was still under 30 mph. My brother said the max gust today was 58 mph. A might windy even for Kansas.

So I combined two days travel into one. 815 miles and I’m ready to hit the tent!

7 more Mixzippy courthouse today. Grand finale tomorrow.
