Where did you ride today?

Went to church as usual this morning. Served on the parking lot team. You can't imagine the absolute power that is felt when you hold up that flashlight with the 18 inch red plastic wand at the end. Two-ton trucks stop dead in their tracks.

On to other things, it was good to feel my brakes are working correctly. I flushed the front and rear yesterday and changed the rear pads. New front pads came in and I might tackle them today.

Yesterday I was thinking the chain likely needed cleaning and lubing badly since I rode through rain going AND coming for MNSTOC. So after the hay fields... er... lawn was mowed I put the bike on the paddock stand and cleaned off the beginnings of a little surface rust and lubed the chain thoroughly. Before I did that I washed the bike since it really needed it. First annual washing this year.

Today I went for a ride. Almost didn't. I checked the tire pressures and when I removed the valve cap on the rear air was hissing out. Only the seal inside the cap was holding it in. I figured the easy thing is most likely the cause. Since I replace my own rubbers and use balance beads. The balance beads kits all come with extra Schrader valves so I had a few. Pulled the hissing Schrader valve and replaced it and then inflated the tire again. No hissing. I think I fixed it. Must have got some grit in the valve seal or maybe just failed anyway. So I was able to ride now.

Rode 52 miles. Just picked a street/road and turned onto it and rode until I decided to pick a different one. Kept going like that in a big sloppy figure 8... or was it a few figure eights. I didn't keep track. I originally was thinking of going to get donuts/pastries for a treat but turned right instead of left and ended up away from the place. Maybe next time. My wife said she wanted help with something so I didn't stay out long.


edit: BTW- when I wiped off the few rust spots that were on the chain it was clear that it wasn't from the chain but something else that deposited a few spots of rust onto the surfaces of the chain. Likely the sprockets. But the lube cleared that away. Just looked over the chain and no rust anywhere on the chain or the sprockets that I could see.

Since it was finally going to be less than 100° today, I rolled the bike out. I fixed myself breakfast, then my wife got home from an early appointment, and asked if it was supposed to rain. I told her that it was supposed to last night but never did. It was pretty dark outside, so I looked at the radar, and it was coming. I rolled the bike back in and waited it out. I got started riding just after noon. I had decided to go to a little burger joint in a small town about 30 miles away, here in northeastern Oklahoma. I arrived and saw a sign on the door, "CLOSED FOR TODAY." It seems that I have an amazing knack for shutting places down. I continued riding through a couple more small towns without finding a suitable place. I ended up at a Whataburger. Just as I was finishing, the guy came out from the back, said that they had a fire, and we would all have to leave. A couple of Amazon drivers were waiting for their food. I felt bad for them since they had already paid. Hopefully, they did them right. I got in about 94 miles before the heat returned.

Well, not today, but I'm always late to the party. Took a 200 mile jaunt across to the ACE Cafe in NW London on Sunday, it was 'Sidecar Sunday'. In years gone by this used to attract large numbers of outfits but sadly this year's turnout was poor, just eight outfits. Relevance to this site.... of the eight, three were ST1100s. Still, got to chat to friends we haven't seen for a while On the way home we popped via Uxbridge, a suburb of Outer London (about 5 miles from the cafe).... I met Chief of Staff there in 1975 whilst we were both serving at Royal Air Force Uxbridge, an administrative base.... thought we'd go and have a quick reminisce.... it's now a housing estate Thankfully, some RAF history remains with the Battle of Britain Bunker Museum https://battleofbritainbunker.co.uk/

I see the "What did you do to your ST today?" thread is up to 365 pages. Maybe it's time we have an ongoing "Where did you ride today?" thread. It might be nice to hear where and how long other ride when you get a chance to ride.

You ride to work? You go for a short day ride? You just back from a long ride?

We may as well start a thread an tell each other how great any ride we had was when we ride.

I just did a short get out and about 20 mile ride. I rode down Pensacola's Scenic Highway which meanders down the western edge of Escambia bay Florida. Looped back through town and back to the house. The old ST1300 is running fine and the weather was blue skies and near 85 degrees. Great day for a ride.

Last Weekend I did a little over 500 miles to East Coast Sturgis near Cumberland MD. Camped for 5 days of Poker Runs, Destination Rides and Motorcycle Games. The ST is about useless for the Keg Roll because I couldn't see it at all past the fairing. I lost the Slow Race to the guy who won 80% of the games there so no shame there. Awesome mountaintop camping and views. Today will just be to the Gym in town.

104 miles today for a breakfast ride. Found a little park right on Lake Michigan. Great day. Rain coming.

I did a short ride around the area and ran into a bunch of sheep, being herded along the road. I wished i would have stopped and got a picture! LOL

My grandson had a Dr appointment this afternoon and the granddaughters also needed someone to stay with them. Our son had work and the DIL had another teacher in-service day for the new school year. So my wife drove the car to Ankeny (21 miles away by car) to their house and I rode the bike (22 miles by bike since I stay off the Interstate hwy). After the appointment she stayed with the kids until their dad and mom got home from work and I rode back home. Ended up with just over 53 miles round trip today.

There was a threat of rain for the ride home but all the rain drops stayed in the clouds. I was prepared though. I had added an extra strip of Velcro to my rain suit to close the gap that allowed the smallest bit of water through during the last heavy rain I rode through with it. After an hour of heavy rain that gap had allowed my riding gear under the suit to get slightly damp so still not bad as it was... now it's better I am thinking.

Only 47 miles today. Lots of stops. Fleet Farm had a car show. Visited a Harley dealer that had a band. Went down to the Harley Museum. Had some awesome loaded nachos with brisket. Yum. Follow that we ice cream and fuel for tomorrow’s ride.

Went out for a little ride this afternoon. No ice creme stop. Rode 63 miles. It was too nice a day today to not get out for a ride. Mostly sunny and around 83*F. Felt like I rode through a few pockets of slightly cooler air.

Well went out for a test ride of a new Rad cap, thanks to another thread talking about the bracket that supports the trunk, which is okay. As I was about to put on the right side cover on noticed the coolant reservoir was over filled, well checked the rad and yeah it was low. So tonight will see if I have fixed that. 60 kilometers should be enough of a test. G

Since I missed out on my DQ ice cream last Saturday, I decided I would go this Saturday. Since I now know that they close the lobby at 10:00, I made sure to leave the house by 9:00. I got geared up, walked out to the garage and pushed the garage door button. The spring broke. I refused to be denied again. I got in my truck and drove up there anyway. Obviously, no bike pic.

Got out to a 60th birthday party in Maple Ridge.

Well, My wife took off about lunch time to visit friends in Cedar Rapids and maybe go with the group to Galena. As she left she told me that since I'll be gone camping most of September she's going on this trip. Besides, she has surgery for a bit of skin cancer on her right arm and won't be doing anything with that arm for several days after. This will actually happen the day before I leave for ArkanSTOC. She is still letting me go... I think. Will see for sure once the surgery is done.

Shortly after she left I went for a ride. Mostly cloudy for most of the ride and temps ranging from 77*F to 80*F. I rode 88 miles today. This trip took me down to near John Wayne's birthplace, Winterset, IA.
Since I am seeing a theme developing here I decided to stop someplace I sometimes ride past. Left my jacket on just to make sure I feel like I needed it.

Headed out to Northern California today. Decided to skip the traffic nightmare of Seattle - Tacoma - Olympia - Portland and take the ferry over from Edmonds to Kingston.



Edmonds Ferry Terminal. Motorcycles get a reduced fare and bypass the lines of hundreds of cars. First on. First off.

Low tide. This place is so laid back, the barber shop says to make an appointment if you want him to come in to cut your hair.

I got several compliments about the bike. That always make my day.

Went a bit further south on Hwy 101. Veered off inland on 101 for a brief bit though Tillamook. You've heard the name before. It's where Tillamook cheese comes from. No ocean scenery, but lots of tiny twisty roads to have fun with. I was actually thinking this is a great way to wake up in the morning. No riding a hundred miles to get someplace good. Just leave the motel parking lot and enjoy.

But I did get to see the ocean a bit.
