249 miles of old Route 66 today, from Cuba, MO to Springfield, IL. I think it was a little hotter today. There were lots of big fluffy clouds around. In my 6 1/2 hours of riding, the clouds got between me and sun for about a total of six minutes.

I rode North, East, South, and West....stood on the Sutliff bridge.....said "It sure is a nice day!".....went home....155 miles today....Russ.
I haven't been able to stand outside here and say "it sure is a nice day" in about three months. It might be another month or two before that happens. It was 91 degrees at 0900 this morning with a high of 104 and a heat index of 113 forcasted for today. I'm seriously considering moving.

Conversely I left about 03:00 and road out to the Catskills without any mild or cold gear. I had to put on the grip heaters and the seat. By 14:00 it’s 77 again. Great day of riding up there. I was always going the opposite way of traffic. 440 miles and just as many smiles. (We get snow up here)

I was in Springfield, IL today for the mile flat track races. I had a little time to kill before the race, so I rode over to Lincoln's Tomb. It was pretty cool.
Today, I rode Route 66 from Springfield, IL to Chicago. Then across Indiana into Michigan. I also stopped at the Joliet Prison gate where Elwood picked up Jake. 317 miles.
I did my longest single-day ride ever today. I started in Valparaiso, Indiana and rode home to Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. 720 miles.
Left Palo Alto where I've been helping my daughter after her spinal surgery. Did a bunch of odd jobs around the house when I wasn't helping to keep her from bending over or picking up anything heavy.
Headed north and stopped in at Lassen Volcanic National Park. That $10 spent on a senior pass years ago has really paid off.

I got one of those senior passes last year. I've used it several times already. I could've sworn when I purchased it that one of the selling points was that it was honored in state parks too. I was in the Black Hills last summer and they wouldn't accept it. I had to pay $20 just to ride through.

Yesterday was a day of contrasts. Dry desert east of the Cascades to alpine meadows and forests in the mountains. Heat to relative colder weather. There were roads that I came across (edit: no one) for like 10 minutes at a time...to sigh 
Bellevue and Seattle traffic. Roads that were straight and gave me a chance to pray and be thankful for the blessings I have in this life, to twisty corners where all my focus was on the moment. Contrasts.
Started in southern Oregon then pointed the XR towards Government Camp on Mt. Hood. Desert to Forest.
Then back into Eastern Washington.
The Yakima River Canyon. I haven't seen any LEO's handing out performance awards through here the last few times I've traveled it. The speed limit is 45 mph, but begs for 60 (or more).
And then Snoqualmie Pass. Trees. Water. Clouds.
All in a day's ride.

Took the FJR up to Echo lake for a 125 mile round trip leg stretcher. Been a while since the FJR has been up there. Got to see some of the early color changes for this year. But had to leave early to avoid all the slow leaf peepers. If you are riding the High Country this month be care for all the Leaf Peepers are out not paying attention to where they are going.
