Advice on purchase of 2016 ST 1300

Expanding on that, a lot of us have keys made to keep in the panniers as well as the left side pocket. Convenient, but not absolutely necessary unless you need to jump start the bike.

The PA has "unlockable" panniers. I keep my left side locked with all my recovery gear, my right side is empty and stays unlocked to put my helmet in at stops.

Very good tips, @ST Gui!
Especially about the deceptive speed... most of us with 10s of thousands of miles or more, learn this and know how to manage the phenomenon.
But VERY good advice for new-to-the-ST riders, especially approaching curves.
It's lovely - but can be spooky - how quickly we can travel at high speed, without being aware.
Especially because it is so smooth and free of drama, at elevated mph.
#I'm going HOW fast...?!?!?!!!

Hi fellows,
I went thru all the plastic and I can see that I have everything except for the following:
- Mirror covers and the turn signal light assemblies. The mirrors are there but no covers.
- The glove boxes are both missing as well.
- The front inner trim around the radiator is also missing.
I am going to get the battery, and the fluids etc. so we can crank it up and take it for a short spin. Next I'll tackle the fairings.
If anyone can help with the mirror covers with the integrated turn signal, and the glove boxes, I would appreciate it.

I didn't check availability, but the part numbers may help you, or the diagrams.
Last time I ordered from them was for my replacement Secondary Master Cylinder.

Check back with the dealer, Might have them hidden away in another box in the back of his store. One never knows. Strange that the faring and these items did not come mounted on the bike. Maybe your bike was a hanger queen and they cannibalized it for other police bike repairs over the years.

I know partzilla has mirror covers, although maybe not in your color. But at least you can paint them if needed.

But I agree that the dealer probably has them somewhere.

I haven't seen it except for the pictures here; it doesn't "initially" appear as if it were used as a parts bike... but it's kinda odd they took the time and effort to remove the fairings in the first place.
Maybe they were going to put it in service, and some police department changed their mind?

If you have any maintenance problems or are considering taking your new toy to the dealer for service, I'd suggest you PM @Igofar first. Hover your cursor over his blue name and hit start conversation. Send him your phone number and he will call you back. I know Larry is retired, but from some of his posts, that sounds like my retirement sometimes. Think RINO :rofl1: .

Did you contact the seller to see if he might have those parts still around?

Are the turn signal wires/bulb holders there? if not, you'll need them as well as the turn signal lenses/mirror covers.

Can you send a picture of the plastic fairing? I think the box of plastics you got may be aftermarket based on the list you sent and the mention of "they are not painted". Does your bike have any of the fasteners to attach the plastics, as well?

Hi Ryan, I think you are right. This is a full set of aftermarket fairings. I saw the same set for sale in on of the online stores. Yes there is a box of fasteners with it. No front turn signals or glove boxes.
I am so excited to gett this bike on the road.

I just typed in “ST1300 Cowl” into eBay, seems most of your missing bits are available. Go slow. Don’t buy the turn signals, PM me and I’ll send you a pair, I have a few sets from changing to clear.

That's awesome. I certainly will. Much appreciated.

@Willsmotorcycle has an excellent point. If you need pieces parts, ask here on this forum first. Many of us have parts from previous bikes that will work fine. I wouldn't necessarily look for used mechanical parts that are still available, like a used SMC, but you would be surprised at what we will make available - especially to get another ST on the road.

Hi Fellows, Here are some more pictures. These are all the fairings that I got.

Some more pictures:
As you can see, for starters, the mirror covers and the front signal lights are missing,
Gloveboxes are missing.
In the first two pictures, who can tell me what those three wire connectors bunched together are for?
Also, what are the button controls on the right handle bar.
I ordered the fluids and some naster cyclinder cover seals and I should have this baby firing up in a few days hopefully.
All help is much appreciated.
Cheers

I could not tell for certain, but it looks to me like your fastener collection is a bunch of aftermarket socket head bolts (allen). You should know that many of the fairing bolts are shoulder type - there is a cylindrical boss under the head that will contact the frame into which it is screwed before the head of the screw squashes or exerts too much pressure on the fairing, leading to cracks and splits in the plastic. Examine the Tupperware Worksheets that, I think, @Andrew Shadow linked in one of his posts. If you did not get the proper fasteners, it would be worth while doing one of two things. 1. Buy the necessary OEM fasteners. 2. Ask if anyone here has any used ones they might part with. 3.* Make your own. I took some copper tubing that I had in my plumbing parts bin and cut off short washers (about 1/8") using a tubing cutter. The tubing I used was a slip fit over the threads of the screws with very little play. In fact, I had to ream the burr to get these little washers to fit. Admittedly this is tedious and a bit of a pita, but when I did it a couple of the fairing screws had gone for a walk in the park. After I got my makeshift shoulder screws and the fairing back together, I of course, found the errant pieces. Had I not been impatient I might have found them.

*Nobody said I could count.

Also, what are the button controls on the right handle bar.

The orange and light blue connections are your turn signal wires (they will plug into the light housing). The other three wires on either side are for strobe/lights that would mount the white brackets and go over the mirror. These wires end up in the tail section, but they are not yet attached to anything.

The switches on the right handle bar are not yet connected to anything (except the headlight switch), the connection to feed into them are also in the tail section. A couple of us have utilized both these connections and the pre-ran wiring to the mirrors for driving lights.
