Anyone install the STS self cancelling turn signal module?

Just for [the] first case we have programed hazard function in the STS, so when both inputs are held together, the STS turns on both outputs.

I'm unclear in this. Both inputs? The turn signal switch (either side?) and the hazard flasher switch?

The email I received yesterday claimed they've a programming mode that senses the dual inputs and allows a passthrough mode.

Does it say anything about when that mode was programmed— not in all models but in a later run? A quick look at the instructs makes no mention of hazard flasher interaction or a date of manufacture.

I am sure that we'd all like to see it!

+1!

Al - gotta part number for us?

+1 Again!

I think Cycle Terminal has a $5 minimum on orders FYI.

.

Sorry about the terminology; two electronics/IT geeks using shop talk.

MY takeaway from his email was it was programmed to check if both left and right bulbs were commanded to light (which happens when the hazard switch is used; it is in parallel with the turn signal switch) , and would respond by not auto timing out due to lack of lean angle or acceleration change. I could also just cut the hazard wires and attach them to the output wires, which would bypass the unit.

At no time in our discussion did he give me a date of firmware Change, nor tell me there was a firmware Change.

I've yet to wire it up ( arrived a week or so ago). I think I may bench test it before installation to make certain it performs as he states it does...

Not a problem. 'Inputs' isn't all that geeky but 'held together' didn't seem geeky at all. LOL

I hope the code was there from the jump. Most of us would have to send the module back to get firmware updated. If a software updater were necessary and made available I'd have to find somebody with a PC to run it.

Absolutely. My dashing off quick responses on mobile didn't help matters either. Mark from STS's response was posted verbatim. As English is unlikely to be his first language, I think he did OK:)

I've no idea if the device is even capable of bench firmware upgrades; I've not opened it to see if any of the normal methods would apply; I expected the thing to be potted solid, but I can feel the casing give under finger pressure.

I suppose they could have done some electronic equivalent of bit-banging on the input leads to reprogram it in-situ, but I don't think so. All the electronics experience I've dealt with bootloading was over embedded serial/parallel/JTAG/SPI connections.

Having said all that, it is simple enough to drop them an email: contact@safer-turn.com. I've only been in contact ..4?.. times, and each time I've had an answer within 12 hours. I am actually very impressed with their responses:
- 24th Feb: Inquire about compatibility
- 26th Feb: Placed Order
- 15th Mar: Received Order (Customs didn't even blink at it)

True dat. I've had a couple of email exchanges with Mark and at first though it was a native-English speaker transplant. But no. And I do appreciate a non-native's ability to speak English.

Before getting to the STS there's the SBM to install along with another LED tail light so I'll keep an eye on related threads.

Thanks for the fish!

Here's my trial STS mounting location.
Didn't finish the install but thought this might be helpful to folks.

I don't have one but I thought that I read you guys discussing these stating that the module had to be installed perfectly horizontal?

I read the instructions as being roughly horizontal.
I could be proven dead wrong. Though trying to find a perfectly horizontal spot on a bike would be very difficult I suspect.

True but I'd look for the most horizontal spot possible and shim to horizontal. Since we're talking left-right motion I'd think parallel to bike is more important and being perfectly horizontal less than a close second in priority.

Horizontal does matter a lot with the Smart Break Module.

Al-Hala did you ever wired it up? What where your results? Can you share some pics?

Move the unit up a little further.

I just messaged them today. I was told there has been no software changes, only changes to packaging and the housing.

Hm. I guess I feel a little better hearing that there's no v2. My take is returning a v1 for new and improved wouldn't be easy if even possible.

Keeping my hazard lights is preferable especially since going to LEDs. A little more attention getting and easier on the battery. I don't know that the STS is a good trade for that.
