Getting home when your bike breaks down - and you're 1,800 miles away!!!

Just checking out the site and found this news about you UP.
I can offer nothing but encouragement and good wishes, you'll get it sorted fella. Might take some time but you'll get it done. Is it an option to leave it at a forum members up there until you can sort things out. It'll take the urgency out of the issue, fly home, collect your thoughts etc.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune and hope it all works out.

I have never seen a UHaul with Canadian plates so I imagine it shouldn’t be an issue taking it home. The cost on their rentals is very cheap upfront but the mile charges really add up.
 
The problem with leaving around here is the expense of coming back after it - 3,400+ miles and my truck gets 11 mpg (designed for hauling stuff).
The nearest airport is a long distance from here also.
If push comes to shove, if I can get it at least to Bangor UHaul has several facilities there which will be no problem one way from there.
 
Hope you're able to get a good nights rest there weather looks not too hot for Sunday, might be good if you can find a spot to store it around there for a while until you can make cheaper arrangements to get it shipped back.
Haven't used UHaul in years but got a really cheap rate once when they must have had too many trucks in my location. Sometimes a trucking company might also have nothing to bring back and give you a good price if your not too fussy time wise.
 
Trucking companies would put it through one or more terminals and it would get busted up - I deal with freight lines in my work (or their results).
If I can get it to Bangor I can rent a Uhaul from there one way for sure.
The local Canadian Tire has ramps and tie downs in stock so I just need a vehicle!

The ST will fit in a Chevy van. My 97 was shipped to Ottawa that way. Took the windshield off, they also have rings on the floor to tie the bike down to. Roll it up to the engine housing.and leave. It on. A sidestand

I appreciate that information.
So far there is a local (5 miles away) UHaul dealer that supposedly has a 10 foot truck (no ramp) that I can rent one way to the USA. However, they do not open until 8:30 AM Monday so I'll have to call them and see if that is the truth (not that a website would ever be wrong or inaccurate ;) ) If I can do one way, then the towing company will load it for me and I will unload when I get to the Holler where I have ramps. Besides rental, I'm going to walk to Canadian Tire and pick up some tie down straps. Life does get interesting at times.

I sure appreciate your very kind offer but I'm okay at this point.
Looks like the rental will be about the same as what I paid for the ferries to Newfoundland which I got refunded.
 
Well it could have been worse news. Although this turn of events saddens me, I had hoped to establish more travel time with you Phil, but your ok so more opportunity follows.
