In 1984 I bought my first new motorcycle, an 82 Honda XL250.The price was like $1400 but because it was leftover, I was only charged $1200 something. Whats a 250 go for now...$5000? Anyway it was on a half inch thick list of other motorcycles you could buy in a crate in a warehouse for cheap. I remember especially the 1000cc aircooled six cyclinder of which there were four examples on the list. They were $3750.

My Xl250 had snail adjusters for the chain, something no longer seen. But better than anything else Ive seen.

I bought a leftover 1974 cr 250 Elsinore in 1976, I don’t remember exactly what I paid for it but I wish I had it back.

I paid just under $800 for my first '72 Yamaha YDS7 250cc Twin (little brother to the R5C 350, year before the RDs came out. I put on over 14,000 miles in the year that I owned it!

I bought my leftover 2006 ST1300 in May of 2009 because everyone knows that Black is fastest. I told the dealer I'd give him a check for $10,000, not a penny more for anything. He said sold.

I bought my left over 2006 ST in Sept. Of 07 for 10,500, came with 7 years unlimited mileage warranty! I learned later they just tacked on the 4 yr. Extended warranty. Still I thought it was a good price since they were selling elsewhere for 14900.

Well lets see now. First new motorcycle was a blue Kawasaki 250 LTD.....I paid 1,320 dollars for it back in 1981. I got a big raise in 1983 and since I was underwhelmed by the piss ant 250 I traded it in for a brand new 83, black and gold Kawasaki 550 Spectre for the grand total of $2,650.00. Kept that bike for 17 years and did city and toured on it. I joined a motorcycle club and started riding with the guys that were riding Goldwings and Harleys and with my 3 gallon peanut tank and 550cc engine It was no bike for sustained 80 to 90 mph speeds. Although when I rode at 70 mph that was the sweet spot for that bike. So I decided on a sport touring bike. I thought I wanted a BMW RT1100 or a Kawasaki Concours. Did not like the Concours because of the suit case like side cases. I was liking the BMW until I rode it....vibration I wasn't liking it. Keep looking and found a dealer 60 miles away that had a 2000 ST1100 new still in the crate. I bought it sight unseen for $10,500 dollars. I still have it today.

In 1969, bought a Honda S90 for 100 bucks, thrashed it until the crankshaft went bye bye, bought a new crankshaft for 28 bucks, put it in myself and sold it for 100 bucks. Cheapest transportation ever.

Brand new Honda cb350 in 1971 for $700. Toured all over Ontario with that bike. No windshield, no luggage except for duffle bag. 70 mph was 7000 rpm. Great first bike

1974 Suzuki GT750J in 1974 for $1100.00. It was my first "Sport Tourer".

Neither was in the warehouse cheap, but in the dealership waiting preparation and at substantial discounts.
That is a 1972 Gt750J first year model with quad shoe front brakes not a 1974 which was a GT750L- I also bought a brand new one for 1000.00 when I worked at a Suzuki dealership as a mechanic. A great bike - I've seen these old Waterbuffalos with 100K miles on them. Suzuki really know how to build long lived two-stroke motorcycles. I rode my GT750 all over the US and Canada and when I sold it it had about 76K miles on the original engine and ran like new.

My first bike was a 1963 150cc Honda Dream - I paid $100 for it in 1971 when I was 16, and rode it for 2 years. I can't remember what happened to it, I think my parents put it out at the curb with the trash after I abandoned it in their garage when it stopped working.

My next bike was a Honda CB 360 that I bought new for the massive price of about $900 in 1973. I remember riding that bike across Canada, something it certainly was not designed to do. At 65 MPH, it was wound right out and had nothing more to give. I can't remember what happened to that one either.

Yup - I paid $800 for a year-old 1975 CB360T with the de-luxe/hi-perf 6 speed twirler. I rode that thing all over with no grief at all. I think I put more than 60,000 miles on it (about 100,000 km).
