Feb of 1970 I picked-up a 69 Triumph TR6-C for $1,100. out the door. It had been used as a parts bike and I had to wait for a new seat and headlight. Didn't want the factory mufflers that were on back-order, so the dealer threw on a set of shorties. Crazy thing was I had to ride it to the Norton dealer-ship to get my deposit back from a beautiful blue 750 scrambler. The 1969 Norton was listed @ $1,400. Those were the days all right, even tho I was only making $2.05 an hour...

My bosses son worked for a Honda dealer. He mentioned that there were some older bikes still in the crate in the back of their warehouse that they had to get rid of. I got a killer deal on a naked 1982 Honda CB900C. A few weeks later he found the matching frame mounted fairing. It was the first bike that I owned......

Bought an 83 Kawasaki KZ550 that had 1000 miles on it. It was a crate bike that didn't get put together until 1998. I bought it in 02.
That was a great bike wasn't it? I think the only difference between my Spectre 550 and your KZ550 was mine had shaft drive:cool:.

That was one bike I drooled over but could not afford it since I had a car payment too.....so I bought a lowly 550cc Kawasaki!

Geezzz. how do you remember back then the price.. I can't remember what I paid for a car I bought this year...LOL
I still have the window sticker of my 1980 Pontiac Grand Prix I bought new in 1980. I keep all that stuff....drives the wife crazy that I won't get rid of it.

My first bike was a 1980 cb900c. Bought it in February 83 during my first year at college for $1600. Put over 20k on it in the next two years. Sold it with 32k on the clock for $1300, to buy another one just like it for $1400, but in the blue color, with only 8k on the clock. Loved those bikes..!!! And they were very sexy...

Neither was in the warehouse cheap, but in the dealership waiting preparation and at substantial discounts.
Looks a bit older than a '74 model (or even a '72 as mentioned elsewhere), but mighty tasty either way.

Dude...what happened to that sexy stud muffin...??? Oh the days..?!?!!!!!

You better behave yourself Todd.

Gone with the bike. ToddC. Gone with the bike. The Hot Chick is still hanging around though. "Oh, what a lucky man I am..."
Still around, I better behave too!

My old bikes?

1974, I brought a one year old Suzuki TS185 for AU$400

G'day Mate,
It was a '72, one the last of the drum brake bikes. I and the missis rode that sweet bike over 70K miles before family and constant travel for work caused a hiatus in motorcycling. I sold it in '87 for way less money than it would be worth today. Two strokes were way out of favor in the '80's it seemed. And, there was nowhere to store it.

That one has after market pipes on it.... Is that you sitting on it.....:)
I bought the bike new in 1980. Added an Ontario-Moto-Tech bore kit and cams, K&N's and a street Kerker in 1982. 1002cc's of fun and travel with a plexi-fairing and a removable trunk. 60k miles before getting my first Wing.

That's my young wife in the photo. 1983 Mother brought out the CB-1000 Custom, go figure...

For me the only two "new" bikes have been left overs... In 1978 I bought a 1976 CB550F Honda supersport. I think it was $1265, less than the new 1978 400 hawk, and way more bike!
Spring of 2018, I bought a new 2014 Honda CTX 1300 deluxe for $9500, again alot of bike for the money!!
I have had quite a few other bikes as well, but all were used when I bought them. Some great deals, but that's another story!

My first bike was a leftover '72 Yamaha R5 350 in Mandarin orange and black that I bought with my Dad's help co-signing a loan for $700 in '73. I immediately crashed it in a traffic circle shortly after picking it up from the dealership. There was little harm to the bike other than a broken clutch lever, but I separated my shoulder and tore up my left ankle and spent the next six weeks back home with the parents suffering my Mom's well-earned disapproving glares. :D

You know what I was thinking?
That's a lot of bike for a first bike.
I'm not usually right.

I think it was around 1984 when you could buy a holdover 1982 CBX for $2500 out the door. Also back when money had much more value.

Great looking GT750, I always loved that color! Is that a Kawasaki 900 Z1A or B behind it?

Pat, slight :hijacked: but couldn't help noticing the GS850G in your avatar. I had a Grey one in about 1980. Could of course be a GS1000G. I had no luck with mine, cracked crank case, punctures galore, misfires, speedo U/S. It must have been a Friday afternoon bike because they have a good longevity reputation.

PatS,
That color caused the wife to name it "The Grape".
It is a Kaw Z. Which model Larry rode out to Glacier Park with us I don't know. We rode a Minneapolis, Glacier, Jasper, Winnipeg, home loop in 10 days. The photo was taken with the bikes pushed against the snow drift at the summit of "Going to the Sun Road".

I got ripped off considering the prices you guys were paying! My first street bike was a brand new '81 CB750C that I bought in college in '81. It was $3400! I sold my '77 CJ5 to buy it. I sure wish that I had that Jeep back now.
