Setting Up A Chinavasion Rage GPS

For anyone that's considering the 5" Chinavasion device, hold off until they get some in stock. Even though the site says it's in stock, it may not be. Use the online chat to verify that model is in stock. Right now they don't have any, at least that's what they tell me. They tell me that they'll be in stock "tomorrow" and ship tomorrow but they lie. They've been lying to me for over a week now, even when I call them out on it. I guess I'll just let my order sit until they ship it. Unfortunately, I won't get it in time for my trip but Uncle Phil has kindly offered to let me borrow one of his Rage units. Thank you Phil.

And the saga continues... I got an email from them with this... "the internal memory should be 8 GB, however the new batch we receive from our supplier come with 4 GB internal memory." They've given me the option of taking the 4GB now and they'll throw in an 8GB SD card or waiting a couple weeks for the 8GB version. I elected to wait.

Phil, I asked them if it was the 4GB Gen1. Will let you know what I find out.

Yep. Check your email. Thanks!!

I finally have had a chance to evaluate mine some and have a hint or two though am no expert and need to play with it more to find out what it can and cannot do.
I run Igo8 and ran it beside my cell phone at times (before the cell phone dove to its death) and had it set wrong to avoid highways which at the time was not an issue as I meant to do a scenic trip just to go. With the help of John on the forums here, he found where to change it in the settings as the system by default checks every box. (hey I'm a newb and didnt know that) and it wanted to send me to every pig path, golfer and groundhog hole along the way.
Waterproof? You bet as it went through two days of traveling and even set out just to give it a test and did so with flying colors.
Navigation is easy (wish it had updates more frequently but I'm cheap) and use map and phone for back up.
Still learning so UP or someone will have to help you on importing routes as that is my next endeavor in learning the unit.

I am going to change my phone plan that will include a new smartphone. I would like to avoid unpleasant surprises* like getting a phone that can't pair to the Rage. And I would definitely want to be able to pair to my original versions of the SENA SMH10. I figure it's a shorter list to ask what people have tried that would not work.
The Rage discovers but doesn't pair with my SENA SMH10, my old phone (HTC Desire Z) or my newish tablet (ASUS Memo Pad HD 7) which has been pretty disappointing to say the least.

Some of the phones to choose for the plan (FIDO provider) are Nexus 5, Sony Xperia M4, Galaxy S4, ZTE Grand X Plus.

Wish I could help you, but I don't have a clue on that one. I've only paired a Rage to a Bluetooth music receiver. It might be a stretch, but is there a Bluetooth 'connector' that has a 1/8" mini jack that you could plug into the headset jack on the Rage and then sync to that Bluetooth 'connector'? I'm sure it has something to do with the Bluetooth protocol that the Rage supports.

Mike, I've been able to pair my older Senas with my iPhone and my Rage at the same time. I don't do it enough to remember exactly, but if think I have to pair the Rage, before the Sena automatically pairs with the phone. If I remember correctly, if I put my phone in my pocket and then put on the helmet, and then go to the bike and start the Rage, it never connects with the Rage. Instead, I turn off the Bluetooth on the phone and let the Rage and Sena pair, and then turn on the phone's Bluetooth.

I bought a 4.3" version of the Chinavasion Rage and it came with Primo already loaded. I loaded some Navteq maps to it and downloaded the Moto skin that Hozzira posted in 4/23/2015 post on page 10. The Rage seems to work just fine...but I have a couple issues:
1. The skin is not in English - I think my Dutch is a little shaky...

-- So is there any way I can get this to give instruction in English? Or where in the Menu (in Dutch) can I switch to English?

2. The second thing is that the sounds work fine until I go to the Navigation button...after that there's no sound or language directions to me -- I tried it this morning ...Whatam I doing wrong here?

Installing the new 1.9 is easy:

Open the .zip, select all the folders and files inside (Except the SAVE folder since you are upgrading) and drag/extract them to your Primo folder on the GPS unit.

Working on zoomzettings for the next release:

Hozzira will have to jump in here, but I'll try to help. Check the SOUNDS setting to see if they are turned off (denoted by red x through the speaker). Also, the problem could be that you have no voice files in the download (X:\Primo\CONTENT\VOICE\....). If you have the MC 1.9 mods, pressing the screen on the map should bring up a list of function to make changes. Press the lower left corner will put you back to the NAVIGATION MENU. Mine came up in English, but there is probably a setting to switch it.

Sound settings were turned off...that is now fixed.

I checked the voice files. The zip files are in teh folder primo/content/voice there are 4 english US and 3 UK files...so I have a US voice selected.

However, all the directions are still in Dutch...I can't figure out how to change to English yet...

When you say 'directions', are you talking about the GPS instructions for a route or just the screen language?

the on screen language on teh opening screen (turn unit on) is English. If I hit the Navigation button all the instructions (wirtten screen language) as in the pic I posted, are in Dutch...no English...
