Machined & Heat treated replacement gear kits are now in stock.
The gears are machined from heat treated 4140 steel bar stock and will not deteriorate like the OEM powder metal drive gear.
They are a simple drop-in replacement for the Honda gear and provides insurance against total failure and often fixes completely failed mechanisms.
Note that its best to replace the drive gear and clean these expensive assemblies prior to complete failure.

ST1300 windshield adjuster gears made by a small shop here in the USA.
Gear kits are still 140$ shipped (anywhere in continental US)(multiple kit orders could be less). The kit includes the replacement gear,a 1.75 oz tube of soap based lithium grease (NLGI#2), and several brushes. Shipments outside the US, on a case by case basis (shipping varies quite a bit) but should be around 160$.

Great thread , I need to work on my adjuster, the left side works, right side does not. It would be good to have a gear on hand, hopefully I can reorient the cable as explained. $140 for that little gear and some grease seems a bit expensive ! But what can I do ! I have enquired of availability. Thanks for the details of working on the adjuster assembly. Years ago I had the cowling open and had no idea how the assembly worked nor parts availability, so just closed it up and have suffered along with a one sided adjuster for years. Actually I rarely move my windshield but am ready to get her done right. PLease advise if you are so inclined.

Could be one or more of several possible causes. Difficult to know without a look.

About the only sure way to have all the bases covered when you get into it would be to have a complete new assembly on hand....which you probably want to avoid if you can.

The broken dog is most likely not the primary cause of the failure. If you keep operating the screen like he did, with one side jammed, there is a good chance the dog will end up snapping

This was just to illustrate that it is difficult to predict what you are going to find once you get into it.

One of my ST13's has the same issue. The lower ear on one dog or the other snaps off, once the lube gets dirty and dry enough that the dog jams in it's track. Using it further, without repair or service will soon result in the lower ear of the other dog (slider) snapping off too. I don't raise the shield much or often (as I added a Laminar Lip),,, but I have the items needed to fix it. Maybe this winter,,, cheers, CAt'
 
Anyone have an answer for my out of alignment windscreen mounting arms? The windshield was sticking, so I removed it and popped up the inner black plastic cover and lubricated the cable/track area. Started working smooth. Problem is I ran it up and down a couple of times to check it and it got out of alignment. One side higher than the other. I can't even mount the windshield now.
Any idea of how to adjust the mounting arms?

Each side is activated by its own separate "threaded" cable riding on the same gear.

If one side rides higher than the other, chances are that one of the cables is starting to strip or the gear is getting worn where the cable engages it.

You'd have to take the mechanism down to check it (not a 5 min job, unfortunately, but can be done if patient).

If it turns out the cable is still OK but the gear is starting to wear out, some have been able to shim the gear housing to shift the gear point of engagement.

If the cable is worn, best is to go for the Bike QUIP replacement parts.


Very well thought out kit I hear from somebody who successfully repaired his windshield mechanism with it.

Key for prolonging the life of the mechanism is to not operate it at speed (especially not raising it at speed).
