The NT1100 Thread

The ST13 will outrun the NT1100

It would be nice if the NT1100 had the Auto up/down windshield which I use a lot of.

It would be nice if it had the drive shaft instead of chain drive. Just hate the re-oil chain during touring and the occasional chain/sprocket change when due.

The ST13 Honda final drive oil based is like no/low maintenance.

Did 312mi on the Harley yesterday and left hand is telling my brain to consider DCT. Again. Great thread. @Uncle Phil - Who gets credit for music in your Hardknott Pass video?
The credit is at the end - Andy Leftwich on his Ride Album - the tune is called Sharktooth.
He was Ricky Skagg's fiddler in Kentucky Thunder for many years.
He's a mighty fine feller - I've met him and talked to him in person.

Yes, all good points. I rode my 2005 ST for 180,000 miles. It took me on many long trips fast and fun. I thought I would always be riding a ST1300 for most of the time I owned it but guess what? Things change, priorities change and the motorcycle under me goes away to be replaced with another one. As good as the ST1300 was I don't want another one and the NT1100 is just right for me now. Enjoy the bike while the enjoyment lasts.

If the NT had all the stuff that the ST1300 has then it would be an ST not an NT. That is why I did not trade my FJR for my NT11. Have them both and enjoy the differences of both bikes. Your money. Ride what you Like and Like what you Ride.

I really like the NT…the only thing I wish it had as compares with my ST1100 is the storage compartments in the left and right fairing. That’s such a useful feature, so why leave them out??? Even the Silverwing has them, which is really convenient.

The NT seems to be the current version of the ST. The primary difference is that it isn't based off a Goldwing. The specs are very similar.

The ST1100 wasn’t based on the Goldwing. It came into being as Honda Germany’s reply to the BMW RS/RT series sport touring bike which is believed to spawn the entire genre. The ST1100 evolved into the ST1300. In the 1980s Sochiro Honda believed the V4 engine would eclipse the inline 4 and Honda poured millions of yen into refining it yet it turned out to be an evolutionary dead end. It’s a marvelous engine and we love(d) it in our VFs, VFRs, and STs but it was heavy and expensive to manufacture. The NT1100 and Africa Twin share the same engine and frame. The NT fills the role of a sport touring bike in Honda’s lineup with next to no R & D cost to develop.

Good point!

Now, the process of getting the ST ready to let her go. Bittersweet...
Congratulations on the new NT! Very nice. I do like them but I’m not yet done with what I have yet, and I don’t have the room in the garage for a 4th bike. I do like them though and it seems many people do (for the riding I do, I’m older so I don’t push the bikes that hard anyway). Looking at that pic, I think I like the blue over the 2026 gray color.

The GL and ST 1100's seem to share frame, suspension and bottom end of the engine. I've seen them stripped down side by side.

Has anyone mounted a Zumo XT series gps? I'd like to get some ideas. Thanks
I'm not sure what the NT's windshield brackets look like, but maybe this will give you some ideas.

There are several sellers on Amazon that make a simple rod to go between the windshield supports on my XR. RAM mounts fasten to that rod and hold the Zumo XT.

I just replace one of the handlebar clamp bolts a ram ball one.

Daboo I take it that the picture is not too recent? :D
:D I was looking for the view of the dash and GPS...but yes, not taken in the last couple months. :D

The handlebar mounting is always an option. I liked it on my F800GT because I hung it off the left side. My contact prescription has the left eye for close up, and the right eye for distance, so it worked perfectly.

Somehow for the XR, I stumbled upon the idea of the windshield mount. Maybe a combination of how BMW has a mounting cradle for their GPS option, and maybe also because the windshield is much smaller and narrower. The GPS would be hanging out the side if I kept it like the F800GT had it.

So here's a pic from Amazon for the NT.

What I like about the setup is everything is centered and the GPS is just below your line of sight, not off to the side.

I replaced two of the 8 mm handlebar clamp bolts with Ram B 367-U bolts that place two ball mounts on the handlebar clamp. The parallel twin engine has just enough vibration at 75-85 mph I wouldn't place a phone or GPS on the bar ends but the center of the handlebar is vibration free and the devices are just off centerline and vibration free. Not a picture of the mounted devices but you can see the Ram balls and phone and XT2 cradle. Neither block the view of TFT screen and secondary instrument pod.
