The Paulcb coldest ride of Winter 2022-2023

31 this morning camping and woke up to ice fog. Glad I covered the bike. Not looking forward to hearing out shortly. Never rode in this before. Fun times

I might have to get out again just so I can also join the 37° club! But not supposed to be that low around here until a week from tomorrow.

10C [50F] this am around the lower mainland running a few errands, good 120k / 70 mph blast down the 1, damp and some rain still perfect riding temperature / conditions for me [on this bike]; but not as good as what's expected tonight; might see 100 to 150 mm [4 - 6 inches, that's a atmospheric river for sure] over the next day or so.

Our lows for the next two weeks starting tonight (usually around 6AM when we see these numbers):

28F;26F;38F;44F;30F;13F;21F;23F;26F;25F;26F;26F;25F;30F;21F

Take your pick! :rofl1:

35F this morning on the ride in. Grips on low, neck gaiter, jacket liner. We're getting there slowly. The sad bit is there's no rush to get to the lowest temp as it's a sign the number of days we can ride here are dwindling fast. I figure if I have another 14 days of regular riding this year I'll be lucky.

We're still in the Indian Summer mode for the rest of this week at least. After that it looks like it will be a slow return to cooler temps that are more normal this time of year. A few days this week will still only be a low in the mid 50s F! But there is the potential of seeing low 30s F in just over a week from now. I'm not complaining too much about that. If the next 4 months follow the same pattern I might possibly be riding more during that time than in recent years. :)

Now I've done it. I put a curse on what I just said above and we'll get dumped on and it will take extra time to clear the streets.

rjs, I think you and I are in the same weather "zone" and from what I am reading, they are predicting colder than normal air temps and less than normal precip from late November until early March

That would be fine by me. I don't really care much what the temp is, but I do care how much frozen stuff we get. I know the Mid West needs moisture badly to bring us out of the drought, but I like it dryer in cold months. Keeps the pavement more clear and ready to ride on.

What is this talk about heated grips and multiple settings or percent. I have second degree burns or is this thing on? settings. Lol.

Reactions: Obo
Sounds like your heated grips are either overdrive or no power with no in between. I have 3 levels and have tried mine in the highest setting for only a short time. They get too hot in high so I have to set them to medium or low. With the handlebar muffs low is all I need down to near zeroF. Still toasty warm there. Mine are factory heated grips.

My Oxfords have 5 settings....30%-50% 70% 80% 100%. I usually run them at 30% with the muffs and wear thin summer gloves so it's easier to feel the switches. Can't even imagine how hot they would be on 100% lol

You don't really notice when you need them on 100% as your hands are so cold from the outside air on the back of your hands. ;)

And that right there is the reason I went with heated gloves so many years ago instead of ADDING heated grips. But since my AK comes with factory heated grips I did switch to adding the handlebar muffs to handle the back of my hands and now no longer need to plug in a wire.

My only chance to get in this thread. I see 10th is still open.

I rode around the north side of Pensacola Bay and north up to Jay Florida. The temps have dropped substantially here lately.

It was 71 when I left around 11 today.

I took the 2010 :bl13: for a short ride around the block today:

Don't believe the TIME, I haven't reset the clock since putting in the new battery.

That's like the short rides I take to check that I put all the plugs back in correctly after an oil change
Another 13.4 miles and someone will be bumped off the list. Or did you continue around a few other blocks for a while after that pic? ;)

If not for all the rain today... over 2 inches of steady all day water falling out of the sky... and strong winds I'd still only have dropped my own low temp ride by one deg. The lower temps seem to be visiting other places for awhile before they come back around here.
