Where did you ride today?

Well, not today but within the past week- went to see my brother in Colorado and got to ride up in the mountains vs the flats where I am now in SC:

I think we were headed to Estes Park in this one. Amazing weather (got hit by a storm near his house on the first day’s ride but no big deal) and I think the whole ride distance was 800 or so miles (we stopped a lot for the scenery)- up in the mountains, 150 miles takes a while like 6 hrs, on the flats by me, it takes only about 3 hrs because, well, straight roads on the flats.

It was an amazing trip- just got back home yesterday.

Warmed the bike, changed the oil and filter, and checked for leaks.......it warmed me up so went to the bathroom and checked myself for leaks!!?? Russ.

I left last Wednesday and pulled into my daughter's home in Palo Alto yesterday afternoon. Hwy 101 and CA1 are wonderful motorcycle roads. I got a lot of riding on roads with great pavement and turns ranging from tight 15 mph corners to nice fast sweepers. But there was also a lot of time where you had to make a choice between the scenery and the road...the consequences of straying wide in a turn would be disastrous. No shoulder. No guard rail. And a vertical cliff to the right. Great ride.

Here's some pics from the trip down. Still not sure how I want to go home.

Natural Bridge If you look close, you can see two more energetic souls than I on top in the middle.

Awesome!

I thought many times over the last couple days how everyone raves about "the Dragon", yet each state has it's own version of the Dragon. And many don't have the traffic. CA1 was phenomenal for the most part. Virtually everyone I came across was polite and pulled off on one of the turnouts to let me by. Only one was especially memorable. A driver in a Tesla driving it like a Prius and going 10-15 mph under the speed limit for about 10 miles. A local I think, judging from where they eventually pulled off at. I'd say there were about 15 cars behind him.

But otherwise, it was like a dance with the bike falling into the corners without effort. Just one turn after another. And no one in front of me.

And that scenery! I didn't show all the pictures, and I didn't take as many as I'd have liked. Simply because each one was special, yet another in a spectacular ride.

The XR really contributed to the ride. I've put 17K miles on it in the last year. It's a great balance between a bike that will eat up the miles for long distance riding...yet when it comes to those twisties, it'll handle like a dream.
