Thanks BB, I went to the Gates site but couldn't find a link! I'll ask at Bursons to see if they have it and what price.

John, when is that AR bike gonna make it to AZ?

Sorry that I did not see this when it was posted. I moderate another forum and it keeps me busy.

I attended the ES6 Eureka Springs, ARK unrally which is every Labor Day weekend. I will be there again next year also. When that was over, I drifted off NW and hit the highway going south to I-40 and took my time.

3 days to make it to Mesa, Arizona.

Why so long? I'm not in riding shape anymore, have been off of bikes since January '08 when a Freightliner semi decided that he wanted my lane and totalled out my '94 GL1500SE and nearly got me. I was ATGATT then too. :bow1:

I hope to be compensated for that miscue one of these days, but the argument is still going on between the beagles.

In any event, I would ride about 90 minutes and get off and take a nap. Get up and ride another few miles and average something like 500 miles a day.

I value safety and my hide a lot more than bragging rights on how far I can ride in a day.

One thing I have to comment on. The ST1100 totally wowed me with its' road handling characteristics. As I was totally un-road worthy ( have not been riding since the accident :( ) , I would catch my self getting into a twisty too hard on a curve that kept getting tighter.

The ST answered my need to tighten up the turn willingly every time and never once did I feel like it was going to high side and slide out on me.

I'm impressed with this bike. wish the handlebars were farther back and up higher, even though it has a 2 inch riser on it now. but, I am a Goldwing spoiled rider. I love my road couch GL1500. :)

I have found 3 timing belts for the ST1100
OEM @ local dealer $129.20 @ Service Honda $88.50
NAPA # 250325 made by Gates $77.35
Gates T325 @ local auto parts store $55.38

Bet you can guess which one I'm getting.

Price for an OEM belt in Australia was $220 from the local dealer. I ordered one from the US, $90 landed in Australia. Hope that makes you guys feel better about prices in the US :)

The cheap one? When are you going to do the install? Timing belt swap is on my list of things to do this year, probably in March sometime.

Good on ya, Ralph, for finding that one. Didn't realize the Gates was so much cheaper.

I need one for lipSTick pretty soon, guess I'll roll on down to AutoZone 'n check it out.

George,
I didn't try Auto Zone, Advance Auto or Orileys. I would be surprised if they can help. I went to a store affiliated with Parts Plus that has been in business 40 years or longer with real parts guys. Had I not had the part #, they would have not beem able to help. The Gates T325 is in the Gates powersports line and I doubt many auto parts stores will know about it. The T325 was not in their catalog, but was on the computer. It had to be ordered from Kentucky (Gates factory???) and I will have to pay a shipping fee $5 give or take, same with NAPA belt or service Honda.

Gates makes the NAPA belt and it wouldn't surprise me if they didn't make the OEM for Honda. I can't imagine Gates making a belt for aftermarket with a reletively small demand for a decent price just for their line.

If it ain't a 350 Chevy Auto Zone ain't much help.

What would be really great is if we could find out without a doubt who makes the belt for Honda. Can it really be different and better construction than the Gates? We trust our interference car engines to Gates, why not our 1100?

I'd trust any Gates belt that's specifically liSTed for the application. They know their stuff.

Looking at Amazon now, lipSTick is gonna need one before the full season is in swing. She's at 94,000 now. Hmmm, my recommendation is for 110,000 instead of Honda's 90,000. I can prolly do my spring trip first.

don't chance it. I had a Honda belt go at 85,000 km. I have fitted the gates belt to the new engine.

I just replaced the TB on my '91 with the Gates T325 belt. IMO the Gates belt is built better and a superior quality belt than the OEM.

Got a note from Amazon last week, my Gates t325 is still back ordered.

<edit> just looked closely at the Gates web site, the ST1100 is the only application shown for the T325 belt, product number 85950763, UPC 072053786828.

The catalog lists all the specs.

I have read on the Steve Saunders Goldwing Forums that Gates is the supplier for the OEM Honda belts.
Either way, I have no issues with using a Gates belt on anything I own.
