Hi few posts here, my name is Andrew and I am from Romania, I have a Honda ST 1300 (2003)and I have a problem that is beyond me, the engine cut at 5500-6000 rpm.....in neutral, first gear, second gear, and I think all speeds(I tried only the first two).....bike starts OK, works well, Idle OK (900-1000 rpm)....runs fine at 120-130 km/h at 4000-4300 rpm, no problem!!! No ERRORS code ! I discovered this problem when I passed a car in 2rd gear, and then I tried to neutral, first gear, second gear....

I checked:
- All four spark plugs-OK
- I checked and cleaned with contact spray and blow air: TP Sensor conector and all ECM conectors

I need some advice what to check???
Thanks a lot

You may want to put some gasoline conditioner in the fuel tank, it could be as simple as some bad fuel.

I do not think it is bad fuel, this week I did about 2000 km, I`m on vacation and did more several tanks full....

I was just throwing out what would be the easiest thing to start with and that would be some bad fuel. You may have a fuel filter problem or a failing fuel pump also.

Passing a car in 2nd gear? You sure you weren't hitting the rev limiter at 7500-8000 instead?

Fueling would be my 1st guess... 2nd might be a clogged vacuum line.

NO No NO rev limiter, As I said in the first post the engine cut in neutral at 5500-6000rpm,first gear, second gear.... possibly make a movie tomorrow...
Tomorrow we inspect fuel filter ....today I lifted up tank and pulled out the air box for checking and cleaning the TP sensor conector, pls tell more about clogged vacuum line ???

I don't know about the ST1300 but some Honda engines have a low oil pressure sensor that limits rpms if oil pressure falls below or does not attain a preset value. Is there plenty of oil showing in the window?

well said dduelin but today I did an oil change, new oil and new filter and the problem persists, indeed the oil level was about the minimum

if you have the air box off look for a black or gray rubber hose leading from each of the intakes. All four connect to a 5 way plastic junction. Sometimes oily goop collects in the 5 way connector and gives a FI light and erratic idle and low speed operation problem. A blockage here does not cut the engine like you describe. Still. It's worth cleaning as long as you are in there under the air box.

I remember something after the VFR forum, I think I know what you're talking, and noted it and put on the checklist...

BakerBoy the engine cut in 5500 as like 8000 ....as there would be no spark
In Romania is now night, but tomorrow I'll make a movie

I wonder if you have one of the coils going out or have a loose wire on one and the vibration at that rpm is causing issues.

Ok now I have a problem with neighbors :) even if it is a late hour I made a movie, may be easier to understand what I mean....ABS light comes on when put in 1st gear and accelerate, bike is on centerstand
PS : I apologize for the quality of the film, but is made on the run....problems with neighbors :) I am still waiting for suggestions for what to check tomorrow

Might be a fuel pump that can't satisfy the demand after a certain point.

I'm betting on something electrical. Fuel demand at 5500 in neutral, or in gear but no power to ground, is going to be relatively low. If it will pull hard at 4000 rpm (like up a steep hill, or pretty hard acceleration) and not miss/stumble at all, I don't think a fuel supply problem is likely. Probably not a faulty injector or injectors as it seems to run fine at lower rpm under any load condition. Only way to tell would be a pressure gauge installed on the fuel rail. I'm not sure how the FI program is set up in the ST1300, but if it has a mode change at around that rpm, that would be a key thing to look at.

I will look in the troubleshooting in the service manual this evening and see if I can come up with anything else.

Maybe the rev limiter itself has an issue. I assume it's a sensor the feeds the ECU. if it was only one coil or one spark plug it would start missing but not cut out. Interesting challenge.
