Re: Fuel Cut Eliminator for ST - On-Off Throttle Issue Resolved
I too was very nervous about this inSTall. What do I know about messing with wiring!! But because the reviews were sooo good, I had to have this mod.
What I learned
-If your bike does not have ABS, you can do this complete install by just removing the passenger seat!
-An earlier post mentioned to practice crimping ? this was great advice and I practiced about eight times before actually installing. This gave me greater confidence.
-Ivan?s instructions are spot on. Read those 3 or 4 times before starting.
-I spoke with Ivan about soldering the connections. He said any alteration to the FCE unit itself will void the warranty ? that includes soldering the connectors.
-I started crimping the bare wire section first then did the part that crimps around the insulated part of the wire. This worked well on the female connectors, but on the male connectors the crimper wouldn?t fit doing the bare wire first, so had to start with the insulated wire crimp.
-I placed all parts a few steps away from the bike. This way I had to walk away after each wire was complete. I never used the wrong connector and never forgot to put the clear covers on first by doing this ? I had visions of forgetting these.
-TeST and inspect each connector after each crimp to make sure it is secure. You can crimp down harder if needed.
-Ivan is a nice guy and has a great product.
If you are nervous about this inSTall, don't be. Take your time and be careful and enjoy the ride!
