I too was very nervous about this inSTall. What do I know about messing with wiring!! But because the reviews were sooo good, I had to have this mod.

What I learned
-If your bike does not have ABS, you can do this complete install by just removing the passenger seat!

-An earlier post mentioned to practice crimping ? this was great advice and I practiced about eight times before actually installing. This gave me greater confidence.

-Ivan?s instructions are spot on. Read those 3 or 4 times before starting.

-I spoke with Ivan about soldering the connections. He said any alteration to the FCE unit itself will void the warranty ? that includes soldering the connectors.

-I started crimping the bare wire section first then did the part that crimps around the insulated part of the wire. This worked well on the female connectors, but on the male connectors the crimper wouldn?t fit doing the bare wire first, so had to start with the insulated wire crimp.

-I placed all parts a few steps away from the bike. This way I had to walk away after each wire was complete. I never used the wrong connector and never forgot to put the clear covers on first by doing this ? I had visions of forgetting these.

-TeST and inspect each connector after each crimp to make sure it is secure. You can crimp down harder if needed.

-Ivan is a nice guy and has a great product.

If you are nervous about this inSTall, don't be. Take your time and be careful and enjoy the ride!

Re: Fuel Cut Eliminator for ST - On-Off Throttle Issue Resolved

Folks, I was thinking of playing with intake air temp vs fuel mix -- seems some minor changes to the NTC IAT sensor can affect similar changes to fuel mix that both the FPR and probably FCE do.

Essentially, tell the EFI computer the air is more dense than it really is, therefore setting up a rich condition through the entire throttle range.

Another thing I'm going to try is to pop the vacuum line off the fuel pressure regulator. This should richen idle to low throttle position mix with an added 10-12psi, and leave wide open mix alone.

I'll report back findings once the new sensors arrive next week and I have played with them on a preset route where I can compare each "tweak" objectively.

thanks for all the reviews, it makes the issue of to buy or not a non issue!;)

Re: Fuel Cut Eliminator for ST - On-Off Throttle Issue Resolved

Hans installed one of these for Charles Mourer last week in his shop in the Netherlands. Charles is now riding through Europe with his wife on his 1300. Here's an excerpt from his latest report:

"We are now around Andermatt CH and ridden the various mts. of this region.
Without qualification I can fully endorse Ivans FCE.
Hans, good ideas on frame rail insulation work too.
All in all Hans is a great source of information on heat control and engine management.
No doubt a great contributing factor in our heat and boiling gas was sourced to slipping the clutch around very tight corners.
This was necessary to keep the enging running faithfully and keep the RPM up.
The Dyno work varified each step that was undertaken.
The quality of our adventure is much expanded."

I can't wait for mine to show up!

Re: Fuel Cut Eliminator for ST - On-Off Throttle Issue Resolved

Just installed mine, fired right up. Raining right now so maybe later I'll get it out for a shake down.

My only gripe is the crimpers. They are too wide and awkward. I switched to a set that I had and they worked much better.

Great pics Jim!

FYI - You probably know this if you have Ivans instructions, however for 2008+ year models the wiring has changed. The wires you need to splice are all in the black connector.

Re: Fuel Cut Eliminator for ST - On-Off Throttle Issue Resolved

I didn't pay any attention to the location of the wires on the gray connector, only the colors.
Are you saying the colors don't match?

I found that as long as I didn't deviate from Ivan's instructions and pictures, the install went very smoothly (although cautiously).

Re: Fuel Cut Eliminator for ST - On-Off Throttle Issue Resolved

I'm REALLY watching this thread! I currently have the K&N and 60 psi TT FPR. I don't want to change back to either. I don't even have my OEM FPR, I'd have to buy one.

I want the sudden on off throttle action gone. Other than that my fueling is fine. The higher the RPM the worse you feel this. I'm usually short shifting anyway would rather use the low-end torque than high-end HP.

Has anyone established how and what ECM parameters are fooled with? Are the O2 sensor's voltage even read anymore?

Anyone done the techflusion device? It's more $$$ but can be adjusted to other mods. I think the O2 sensors are disconnected though.

I have about 120 miles on mine after today. I would say it's much better, but still not perfect.(to me)

Going to try taking some slack out of my throttle cable.

I've done the Techlusion, Powercommander, throttle tamer, FPR, etc. None helped much, and the Powercommander almost killed me! You can read all about it here:

I'm trying Ivan's mod as soon as it shows up. Hope it works better than anything else I've tried!
