Prolly finish the install today and go for a ride........... report and pic's soon.

Looking forward to your report. If someone is not capable of properly soldering wire connectors, then they should not be playing around "under the hood" anyway. I'll buy and install one in a flash if it really works despite any warranty nervousness.

Re: Fuel Cut Eliminator for ST - On-Off Throttle Issue Resolved

You can always use the posi-taps http://www.posi-lock.com/posiplug.html

Good luck!
+1 on the posi-tap. Much less intrusive than crimped/soldered bullet connections.

It is unclear to me, though, whether you can just tap into the wires or if you need to 'interrupt' the wire to cause all the current to go through the magic black box.

I know I'm not phrasing it correctly, but is the black box's function additive, or should it be wired like a switch would be, interrupting the circuit? Excited electrons are such a mystery!

Re: Fuel Cut Eliminator for ST - On-Off Throttle Issue Resolved

If it is not too difficult could someone doing an install take a picture of your computer connectors while you are there. If we could find some connectors that would fit into the original plug we could make the thing removable. I really want one, but don't want to void my warranty.

Here are some original type connectors, there are other sites with them too.

Re: Fuel Cut Eliminator for ST - On-Off Throttle Issue Resolved

Very interesting! A plug & play install and for warranty work a remove with no trace of that the unit was there would work for me; even with a higher price point:):):). This thread I will watch.

Re: Fuel Cut Eliminator for ST - On-Off Throttle Issue Resolved

I agree fellas.

Plug and Play; or in this case, Plug and ride would be much more desireable!

Can someone relate this to the manafacturer.

Any news about the Fuel Cut Eliminator???:06biker

Ok, I installed the FCE on my '05 and it works as advertised!!!! My problem with the ST is with mid corner roll on of maintainance throttle. Before the bike would act like a light switch was turned on and the bike would shudder and the chassis would wiggle. Healed over in a corner , this is not a good thing!!! Went out yesterday after the Saturday install and hit the first entrance ramp I could find.. Remember I live in sunny down town Hollyweird Florida. No twisties.
I like to hit a turn at about 5k on the tach and adjust my throttle for the turn. This helps with acceleration and engine braking while in the turn. I found I could adjust the throttle so precisely that I could steer with the throttle. This is cool. A touch more throttle and the bike widens the arc, touch less the bike tucks in. Now I have the bike just the way I like it. No ka chunk, Like Jordan said, It's like adjusting a rheostat on a turbine.

Little backround. My bike is non stock. I have a K&N air filter, 61psi fuel pressure regulator, Stayintune's and the G2 throttle tube.. So,,,,,,, YMMV.
And I'm real happy with this farkle. For me, this is the one throttle cut gizmo that cures the problem. I spoke with Ivan and he said if I put the old (honda) FPR back in, the bike will run even better. Something about running a touch rich at certain RPM's. He also mentioned that using the bullet connectors is the most cost effective way to do. Not to mention that there is no room to put extra in line connectors next to or under the ECU.

Install on the next post...

Re: Fuel Cut Eliminator for ST - On-Off Throttle Issue Resolved

This is for discussion purpose only. This is how I did it and it works for me..

The kit consists of the FCE, new crimpers, 8 male, female bullet connectors with silicone covers and instructions. The FCE is a small cylinder with what I think is a eprom potted into the housing with the wires coming out, with the bullet connectors on the ends. The wires on the FCE are the same color code as Honda.

The short version is,
1) remove the rear cowl to access the ECU per Honda service manual part
2.7 and 5.88
2) locate the wires to cut
3) cut wires
4) attach bullet connectors to both ends of the cut wires
5) attach FCE inline with the wires
6) start the bike to check function
7) re install the FCE and tuck the wires under the holder
8) GO RIDE !!!!!!!!!

IF YOU ARE NOT COMFORTABLE DOING MINOR BRAIN SURGERY SEEK ASSISTANCE. I suggest if your crimping skills are wanting, Go to a electrical supply store (radioshack??) and buy similar connectors, 20g wire and PRACTICE. When I was in radio school we tested our crimps by trying to pull them off. If you can do 10 practice crimps and they don't pull off, I think you got it.. If you want to get really crazy you can solder the crimps, which is Western Electric standard. A good mechanical AND electrical connection. If you are worried about any corrosion issues, squirt some di-electrical silicone paste in the covers.
It took me about 2 hours to do the farkle and I took my time, no rush. I double checked the color codes of the wires two or three times with a coffee break in between just to make sure. If you have any question, get another opinion from someone with better eyes. Orange might look like brown, etc..

More on the next post..

Re: Fuel Cut Eliminator for ST - On-Off Throttle Issue Resolved

The instructions are good. A page on how to crimp and which wires to use for the FCE. You are instructed to cut the wires 50 to 55 mm (2 3/8") from the edge of the connector, which side get the female and which side gets the male connectors. Make sure you slide on the silicone insulators before installing the bullet connectors!! He gives you two extra if you mess up.
Also you have a good wire stripper as all the wires are stripped to 10 mm, twisted and folded back to make a thick 5mm end to crimp. When in doubt, practice. This is a good opportunity to get a quality stripper. I love buying tools!!! Any excuse will do.

I flipped the connectors over so the release latch for the connector is on the back side as I work. I double checked the measurments to cut with a ruler, see pic. You also have to have a black and red indelible marker to identify the difference between two white wires. PAY ATTENTION. Make sure the marker does not rub off...
So locate the wires, measure, cut, crimp, connect. Re connect the battery (Did I mention to disconnect the battery????)
Now start the bike and check for functionality. If all is ok, route the wires and the FCE under the ECU holder. There is room but just enough..

GO RIDE......... Like I said, it works for me......... I'm a very happy camper.

Usual disclamers apply YMMV...

Re: Fuel Cut Eliminator for ST - On-Off Throttle Issue Resolved

So you are saying that your ST had hesitation with aftermarket pipes and a K&N air filter until you added the FCE?

Yup, the only way I could get the hesatation out of the chassis was to just touch the rear brake ever so slightly while rolling on the throttle.
The only thing I might do is change the FPR as Ivan suggested... I'll prolly do it the next time i'm down in there........ maybe with the cruise control install...

Re: Fuel Cut Eliminator for ST - On-Off Throttle Issue Resolved

Appreciate the write-up, Mitch.

I seem to be more aware of the on-off throttle below 3000 rpm. How's the FCE perform in the lower rpms?

I'm used to it, and deal with it, but wouldn't mind if the on-off was gone!

Hi Fred,
After the install I did noticed the cut between idle and about 2500 rpm. It's very slight but noticeable. Beside's running the bike in corners between 4 and 5k I did some slow speed cone work also. Still have to slip the clutch and adjust the speed with the rear brake, as before, so no super inprovement there. Then again that's how I was taught to do slow speed cone work so no big woop for me..

Re: Fuel Cut Eliminator for ST - On-Off Throttle Issue Resolved

Ok, I'll ask the dumb question................Dumb question: Is there any place else to gain access to the wires to the ECU besides next to the connector? It would be a better hide for warranty work (as in under the seat), easy to be removed and to be replaced? I could look in my manual but what wires do I follow/trace from the connector to where?

Re: Fuel Cut Eliminator for ST - On-Off Throttle Issue Resolved

Is there a total of four wires that need to be cut? Are they all in the black plug, white plug or both. I was thinking something like the connectors below if they are the same type used on the bike from the factory. (Will have to investigate). Done nicely a mechanic should not notice anything awry unless there is a wiring harness problem. Just unplug and remove FCE and plug wires together. As Macedo stated maybe there is a more out of the way place to install also.

6 wires, both plugs

Apperantly they are Honda specific connectors, so I'm told...

I suppose you could cut up the harness, follow the wires back and hook them away from the ECU... Then redo the harness... Lots of work..

Did the crimper that came with it do the type of crimps in the picture below? Factory type?

Yup, folds the metal around and into the wire, like the letter "B" on it's back..

Re: Fuel Cut Eliminator for ST - On-Off Throttle Issue Resolved

No Mitch96, not cut up the harness but those wires go someplace else on the bike; open the wrapped harness at that location, splice in the FCE, retape and fold in the FCE under a bracket or something out of sight. Easy access to plug and unplug; just thinking out loud.
