Where did you ride today?

Trying out the K bike on an over night and meeting up with Sirbike for a ride. Stopped @ 9 County Courthouses as I’m still trying to get to all of them, not many left.

950 miles, left at 0230 pack with camping gear and more new kit than one should try on a ride. Everything worked out and I found some limitations, but all was worthwhile. Arrived home at 2300 having been unable or possibly unwilling to secure a campsite in two tries. The last time I took the K out it was less than ideal above 80 on the interstate. Wind buffeting was obnoxious. Here’s to hoping.

I installed a Puig touring screen and hoped for the best.

Arriving at my first Courthouse pre dawn and in foggy conditions, I bimbled through interstate and secondary roads in beautiful weather and a comfortable bike.

Having planned for temperatures poorly. I found myself very cold. Heated seat and grips on high and wishing I had put on “pants” and thicker socks. Thankful that I always have the heated jacket with me and had put a second jacket in the side case. I had it all on and switched to winter gloves, because they are the only other ones that are waterproof and I expected rain on the ride home. My last trip my go to gloves failed in the rain and I had forgotten a second pair. I bought new Held gloves and had them on the when I started.

Sun came out and warmth with it. I had clipped a Zumo XT3 in the Zumo XT bracket. General knowledge said this would work. It works and charges, mostly. It does not work. After about 12 hours the GPS quit. I had planned for such an event and snapped in the XT and resumed travel.

The new helmet and Cardo worked well, I have to adjust the eyeglass ports around the ears but this was expected.

One of the towns had an Apple fest and I had to sneak in to get my photo. This is the side.

One I the interesting things of going to the County seats is seeing the old towns that were the hubs when the State was young.
This town never developed much past its start.

All in all it was a great ride, the K can certainly chew up the miles effortlessly. The Held gloves are a 1/2 size to big, but still work. New helmet in the smaller shell size was a bonus and pinlocks are priceless. The advertised battery life of the Cardo edge is about half of what you can get the way I’m using it, that’s a bonus, but seems you can charge it while using it.

Did a quick run up to Erie and had lunch on the lake(turkey jerky and some water).

I have a Butler map on the bag so seeing Sirbike was on his way I plotted a slightly different route and took some back roads to complete my task and meet him for a bike swap to ride the triple 6 through Allegheny National Forest. He has a FrankinSTeed with a CBR 17” wheel and older Heli bars, he set it all on a premium suspension and this girl handles amazing!! It was interesting to see what you can get out of the ST and still keep the motor predictable.

Had some logistical challenges preventing me securing a camp site. Frank had to go home and I decided to ride until I didn’t want to anymore. Pulled over to gear up for cold again as the sun was fading. Temperature change was instantly noticeable. Took about an hour to reach the interstate and East I headed. The bike and I found a comfortable spot, me being behind the new screen and controlling the pace, her delivering exactly what I asked, ever increasing the pace. The bike is amazing and will be a wonderful multi day companion. Going to need the RDL though, and to watch that throttle, MPG drops by 30%, so my limitation is only gas stops. Thanks for reading, had a great day, there’s nothing like 21 hours on a bike!!! Ride safe!

She's a great looking bike and my favorite color. I'm looking forward to more ride reports from you Will.

It was too nice a day to go straight home after church, so I took a sanity ride out on the High Bridge Road, and then the Ben Howard Road. These are some of the nicest "motorcycle" roads in the area. They run through rural farmland with hills right there next to you, and following the Skykomish river as it twists and turns. Oh...and with the Cascade Mountains very close by.

And while the other pictures don't show the colours well, the oranges, yellows and greens were beautiful.

Last week I rode up to Red Ri er Gorge in Kentucky
About 3.5 hours up from my home.
Beautiful morning with the clouds in the valleys. I stopped at the lookout on Benge's Gap and took pictures.
Nada tunnel, to get into the Red River Gorge, was hand dug using steam drills, dynamite and shovels in 1910-11. 900 ft long and 12 ft wide. One man killed trying to thaw frozen dynamite next to the fire.
Nice ride up and back, and nice road through the Gorge. 1000024269.jpg1000024272.jpg1000024276.jpg1000024266.jpg1000024277.jpg1000024286.jpg1000024280.jpg1000024265.jpg

I went to a "Motober-Fest" at Seattle BMW today. They promised free food, but I'd eaten just before leaving so didn't have any. I was hoping to meet some representatives of the BMW MOA, but didn't see anyone who acted like they might've been associated with the group. It didn't take long to realize I'd have more fun and be more productive vacuuming my lawn with the mower to get the leaves picked up.

No pictures. But I promise it did happen. :D

Oh, and I waved to the Seattle LEO as I went by. It was the highlight of the trip.

On yesterday's ride I rode past this guy standing in the road. I stopped and talked to him for a while then started petting him until he got used to me then I picked him up and moved him over to a tree.DSC_4541.JPG

5 hours later I stopped by to check on him and he was better looking but still there.

In Iowa you are supposed to report hurt raptors to the DNR and they will pick them up and take them to a rehabilitation hospital for recovery. So when I got home I spent quite a bit of time calling every # that I could find for the DNR and none of them would answer the phone or call me back. I did talk to the main office and she would forward my call but it was always to a # that would not answer the phone.

Went north to the Bellingham, WA area yesterday. A couple of us are on the committee for the next COG national rally in June 2027. We were in search of RV sites for those who don't want to stay at the Silver Reef casino in Ferndale.

Along the way, I stopped and grabbed this pic. Beautiful area.

There's not many places where you can get ocean front beaches and high alpine wilderness in an hour or so from each other.

Took a lumberjack-style ride up into the mountains to have lunch with some fellow riders. That happens that this time I was on a Harley Electra Glide. It was a fun experience - it vibrates, makes plenty of that classic potato noise, and actually rides pretty well.
I also got a chance to test ride an ST1300. Strangely enough, I liked it less than my ST1100. The riding position felt different, a bit more sporty than touring, maybe. So I think I've dropped the idea of upgrading my old 1100 to a 1300 in the future.
